First Sound

The slap lands hard across Mara's welted ass and she jerks against the chains, the blindfold still tight, the earbuds still dead—but the next stroke falls and she hears the leather cut the air a half-second before it bites. Kyle's voice, low and amused, says 'She's counting without knowing it,' and then Adrian's hands are at her head, pulling the earbuds free and untying the gag. The room rushes in—her own ragged breath, the creak of the frame, the brothers' footsteps on the floor—and for the first time in days she screams, a raw, furious sound that tears her throat, and Kyle laughs and says 'There she is.' The act this chapter delivers: Kyle flogs Mara's bare ass and thighs with a leather strap while Adrian holds her head, and when the earbuds and gag come off, she screams curses at them until Kyle shoves two fingers into her cunt from behind, making her gasp and choke on her own fury as he works her toward a shameful, hateful climax.

Another stroke. This one she feels in her teeth, the way the leather bites across the backs of her thighs and sends a shock up through her hips that rattles her spine. Mara jerks against the chains, wrists screaming, ankles spread so wide her hip joints ache, and the blindfold is still tight, the earbuds still dead, and she has no idea how long she's been hanging here.

Hours. Days. She's lost count of the strokes. Lost count of everything except the rhythm—the whistle, the crack, the burn blooming across her skin like a second layer.

She's been counting them anyway. She can't help it. One, two, three, her mind ticking along under the pain like a metronome she can't switch off. Twenty-three. Twenty-four. The number sits in her head, useless, automatic, and she hates that her brain has found something to do besides scream.

The next stroke falls and she hears it—actually hears it, the leather cutting the air a half-second before it bites.

Her whole body goes still.

That's new. That's wrong. She's been deaf for so long she'd started to believe the silence was permanent, that the earbuds were sealed into her skull, that she would hang in this dark wet silence forever, feeling and never knowing.

But she heard it. The whistle of the strap. The air splitting.

Footsteps. She hears footsteps now, too—soft, deliberate, circling the frame she's chained to. Two sets. Two different rhythms. One heavy, one light. Her heart slams against her ribs and she strains her head sideways, uselessly, the blindfold still glued to her eyes, and she's suddenly aware of her own breathing, loud and ragged in her ears, and the creak of the frame when she shifts her weight.

"She's counting without knowing it."

The voice is low, amused, close to her ear. Kyle. She knows it's Kyle even though she's never heard him speak before, knows it the way an animal knows a trap. There's a smile in it, a lazy satisfaction that makes her skin crawl.

She opens her mouth to answer—to spit, to curse, to say anything—but the gag is still in, and all that comes out is a muffled, furious sound that dies against the leather.

Another set of footsteps. Lighter. Closer. She feels the air change in front of her, someone standing just before her face, and then hands are at her head, fingers working at the earbuds, and she jerks away on instinct, but the chains hold her, and the fingers follow, patient, relentless.

The first earbud comes out.

Sound rushes in like water through a breached dam. Her own breath, loud and broken. The creak of the frame. A distant hum she thinks might be the house itself. And then the second earbud, and she's hearing everything, too much, the room suddenly alive with noise she'd forgotten existed.

She gasps. It's too much. It's overwhelming. Her ears ring with the sudden fullness of the world and she blinks hard behind the blindfold, trying to orient herself in the chaos of sound.

Hands at her head again. This time they're working at the knot of the gag, and she holds her breath, not daring to hope, and then the leather loosens and pulls free and her jaw drops open, raw and aching, and she tastes her own spit and the metal of her own fear.

The blindfold comes off last.

She squints, the light blinding even though it's dim—a single bulb somewhere above her, casting the room in amber shadow. She blinks, blinks again, and the world swims into focus.

Kyle stands to her right, the leather strap coiled in one hand, his gray eyes watching her like she's a specimen under glass. He's wearing a dark shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows, and there's a faint sheen of sweat on his forearms. He's been working.

Adrian stands in front of her, the earbuds dangling from his fingers, his honey-brown eyes soft, almost kind, and that's worse somehow. That's worse than Kyle's open cruelty, because Adrian looks at her like she's a hurt animal he's trying to help.

She's naked. She knows she's naked—has known it for days, has felt the air on her skin, the chains at her wrists, the spread of her ankles. But seeing them see her, seeing Kyle's eyes travel down her body and back up, seeing Adrian's gaze rest on the welts rising across her thighs—it makes it real in a way it hasn't been. Real and public and hers.

For the first time in days, she screams.

It tears out of her throat, raw and furious, a sound she didn't know she had in her. It's not a word, not even close, just a long ragged howl of rage that scrapes her vocal cords and leaves her gasping. She pours everything into it—the hours of silence, the helplessness, the hands on her body she couldn't see, the fear she'd refused to feel—and it comes out as one terrible sound.

Kyle laughs.

"There she is."

She turns on him, chains rattling, and her voice is hoarse, broken, but it works. "Fuck you. Fuck you, you fucking piece of shit—"

"Language," Kyle says mildly, and he's still smiling, still watching her like she's entertaining. "You've been so quiet in here. I was starting to think we'd lost you."

"Lost me?" She strains against the chains, uselessly, her wrists burning. "I'm chained to a fucking frame in your basement, you sadistic fuck—"

"Not a basement." Adrian's voice is soft, almost apologetic. "It's a guest room. We redecorated."

She whips her head toward him, and the look she gives him would have flayed a lesser man. "You. You're the one who smiled at me through the window. You're the one who gassed us."

Adrian tilts his head, considering her. "I'm the one who let you in, yes."

"Let us in? You trapped us—"

"I opened the door." His voice is gentle, reasonable, and it makes her want to claw his face off. "You walked through it. You made that choice."

"We were stuck on your property—"

"You could have walked the other way. Taken the highway." He shrugs, apologetic. "I told you to take the highway."

She stares at him, chest heaving, and the fury in her is so bright it's almost white. "You knew. You knew what we'd do, you planned it—"

"I planned for it, yes." He says it simply, without shame. "But you still chose. Every step. You chose to come in, you chose to stay, you chose to drink the water Sofia brought you."

The mention of Sofia makes her stomach clench. The maid. The one who'd drugged her, who'd looked at her with something almost like hope. She'd trusted her, for a moment. She'd seen the collar and thought—

She doesn't know what she'd thought. It doesn't matter now.

"You're monsters," she says, and her voice is flat, final. "Both of you."

Kyle moves before she can react. He's behind her in three steps, and she feels his hand land on her ass—on the welted, burning skin—and she jerks away, but there's nowhere to go, the chains hold her, and his palm is hot and heavy on the bruise.

"That's not very grateful," he murmurs, close to her ear. "We gave you your voice back."

"Go to hell."

"We're already there." His hand slides down, over the curve of her ass, and she feels his fingers dip between her thighs from behind, and her whole body locks up. "We've been there for years. You're just visiting."

She tries to close her legs, but the chains hold her spread, and his fingers are at her cunt, and she's dry, she's so dry, her body clenched shut against him, and she hates him, hates them both, hates the way her breath catches when his fingertips find her clit.

"Don't," she says, and her voice cracks. "Don't you fucking touch me—"

"Why not?" Kyle's voice is lazy, amused. "Your body's already talking to me. It's just not using words."

"I'm not—" She gasps as his fingers press harder, circling her clit with a practiced, patient rhythm. "I'm not wet, you're not—"

"No." He agrees easily. "You're not wet. Not yet." His fingers slide lower, and she feels them at her entrance, dry and insistent. "But that's not the point, is it? The point is what happens when I keep going."

"Nothing's going to—"

He pushes in.

Two fingers, dry, and it hurts, burns, stretches her where she's never been stretched, and she makes a sound she didn't mean to make, a choked gasp that she swallows into a snarl.

"There," Kyle says, satisfied. "There's the sound."

Adrian is watching. She can feel his eyes on her, on her face, on her body, and she hates that he's seeing this, hates that he's seeing her like this, chained and spread and violated, and she looks at him, desperate, searching for something—anything—that looks like mercy.

He just watches. His eyes are soft, almost warm, and there's something hungry in them that makes her stomach turn.

"Please," she says, and the word tastes like ash. "Please, don't—"

"Don't what?" Kyle's fingers are moving inside her now, shallow, dry thrusts that make her want to crawl out of her own skin. "Don't make you feel good? Don't make your body tell the truth?"

"This isn't—I don't want this—"

"I know." He says it almost kindly. "That's what makes it so beautiful."

His thumb finds her clit again, and she jerks, her hips bucking against the chains, and she can't stop it, can't control it, her body responding to the touch even as her mind screams no, no, no.

"She's fighting it," Adrian observes, and his voice is thoughtful, almost clinical. "Interesting. Most of them give in faster."

"Most of them aren't cops." Kyle's fingers curl inside her, searching, and she gasps when they find a spot that makes her whole body clench. "She's trained to resist. Trained to hold out."

"She's also trained to notice things." Adrian steps closer, and she can smell him now, something clean and expensive, and she hates that she can smell him, hates that she's noticing anything at all. "She's noticed that her body is starting to respond."

"It's not—" she starts, but the words die in her throat when Kyle's fingers curl again, pressing against that spot, and something hot and shameful floods through her.

She's getting wet.

She feels it, the slickness starting between her thighs, and she wants to die. Wants to scream. Wants to claw her own skin off. Her body is betraying her, responding to the invasion, and she can't stop it, can't control it, can't make herself go dry again no matter how hard she hates them.

"There it is," Kyle murmits, and she can hear the smile in his voice. "There's the truth."

"Fuck you," she gasps, but it comes out broken, breathless, and she hates how it sounds, hates that he can hear the want in it.

"You keep saying that." His fingers are moving faster now, slick with her, and the sound of it is obscene in the quiet room. "But your body's saying something else."

"My body doesn't—I don't—"

"You do." He presses harder, curls his fingers, and she arches against the chains, a sound tearing out of her that's half-moan, half-sob. "You want this. You want to come on my fingers while your friends are somewhere in this house, getting the same treatment. You want to know how it feels to give in."

"No—"

"Yes." His thumb works her clit in a steady, relentless rhythm. "And when you come, you're going to say my name. You're going to thank me. And then you're going to remember that you did it, that your body chose it, and you're going to hate yourself for it."

She shakes her head, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes, and she can't tell if they're from pain or fury or something else entirely. "I won't. I won't—"

"You will." He says it simply, without cruelty, like he's stating a fact. "They all do."

Adrian is still watching, and she looks at him, desperate, searching for the softness she saw before. "Please," she whispers. "Please, make him stop."

Adrian tilts his head, considering her. "Why would I do that?"

"Because you're not—you're not like him—"

"I'm not?" He steps closer, and she can see the hunger in his eyes now, the same hunger she saw in Kyle's. "You think because I smile, I'm kind? You think because I don't use the strap, I'm gentle?"

"Please—"

"I'm worse," he says softly. "Because I'll make you want it. I'll make you beg for it. And by the time I'm done, you won't be able to tell the difference between what I've done to you and what you've asked me to do."

She stares at him, and the last shred of hope she was holding onto crumbles into dust.

Kyle's fingers are relentless inside her, and she can feel it building, the shameful heat coiling in her belly, and she tries to fight it, tries to think of anything else—her friends, her job, the case that broke her—but the pleasure is a tide, rising, rising, and she can't stop it.

"Don't," she gasps. "Don't, please, I can't—"

"You can." Kyle's voice is low in her ear. "You will. And you'll love it."

"I won't—"

"You will." His fingers curl, press, and she feels herself clench around them, feels the orgasm building like a wave. "Say my name when you come. Say it."

"No—"

"Say it."

She shakes her head, tears streaming down her face, and the wave is cresting, breaking, and she can't hold it back anymore. Her body arches against the chains, her mouth opens, and the sound that comes out is his name.

"Kyle."

It's barely a whisper, torn from her against her will, and she feels herself come, feels her cunt clench around his fingers, feels the shame flood through her as the pleasure rips through her body.

He holds her through it, fingers still inside her, working her through the aftershocks until she's sagging against the chains, boneless and trembling.

Then he pulls out.

She feels the emptiness, the slickness running down her thighs, and she can't look at them, can't look at either of them, her eyes fixed on the floor as her chest heaves.

"Good girl," Kyle says softly, and she flinches at the praise. "That's the first lesson. Your body doesn't lie. And now you know it too."

She doesn't answer. Can't answer. Her throat is raw, her body is shaking, and she feels like something inside her has cracked open, something she can't put back together.

Adrian steps forward, and she feels his hand on her cheek, gentle, almost tender. She flinches away, but he follows, his thumb brushing the tears from her face.

"It gets easier," he says softly. "That's the worst part. It gets easier."

She looks up at him, and her voice is barely a whisper. "I hate you."

"I know." He smiles, and there's something almost sad in it. "That's fine. You will anyway."

He steps back, and she hears them move away, hears their footsteps on the floor, and then the door opens and closes, and she's alone.

She hangs there, chained and naked, her body still trembling, her thighs slick with her own shame, and she can still feel the ghost of his fingers inside her, can still hear her own voice saying his name, and she hates herself more than she's ever hated anyone.

But underneath the hate, underneath the shame, there's something else. Something small and hard and stubborn.

She's still here. She's still fighting.

And she heard the door. She heard the lock.

She knows which way they went.
