The way she looked at him on the first page, the secret he let slip, the dress that ended up on the floor: your story now keeps the whole chapter in mind as it writes, so even your longest chapters hold together from the first line to the last.
Something wicked this way comes. In the iPhone app, start a story from a witch’s spell, a haunted house, a ghost lover or a blood moon, and sink into a hand-picked shelf of Halloween Stories on Explore. Don’t see it yet? Close the app and open it again.
Writing on NovelX is now smoother and more reliable, so your chapters flow from the first line to the last, on the website and in the iPhone app. And on the website, when you undo a chapter, the request you sent comes right back in the box, ready to tweak and try again.
In the mood for quick, teasing back-and-forth? Pick short and your character keeps it snappy. Want to sink into a scene? Long gives you a full, rich reply with room for every look and touch. Switch whenever the mood changes, on the website or in the iPhone app.
Ideas from our Discord, live now: keep the characters you love and rewrite only the rest, reorder your cast, hide the chapter beat, regenerate or adjust a picture inside a chapter, and put up to three people on a Premium cover. Keep them coming!
Your characters listen closer now. Write a line in Memories — a pet name, how they treat you, a rule they never break — and they stay true to it in every reply. On the website, a note on any reply carries forward too, and every chat opens right on your latest message.
Your story knows what you’re in the mood for. In steamy and explicit stories, one of your choices for what happens next names the moment it’s building to. Pick it and the next chapter takes you all the way there, right to the finish the card promised.
Premium images follow your words more closely — who’s in the picture, what they’re wearing (or not), and the moment you describe. Premium now paints your characters’ portraits too, true to the person you wrote. We tune it every week, so it keeps getting better.
Meet Premium, our sharpest image engine yet. Covers, chapter pictures and chat photos come out with finer detail and richer light, at every heat level, plus new looks like Keyart and Fantasy. Everyone gets 3 Premium images to try free.
Everything you love about chat on the website is now in the iPhone app. Swipe between versions of a reply, edit what your character said, stop a reply mid-way, and open Memories to see what they remember. Update the app to get it.
Your story listens more closely now. Leave a note on a chapter — more heat, a slower pace, a name you want used — and it stays with the chapters that follow, not just the next one. And the characters you pick for a chapter are the ones who step into the scene.
Press play and let the chapter carry you. Narration keeps pace from the first line to the last, so you can sit back and listen without waiting for the next part — right to the end of your longest chapters.
Deleting a chat now asks first. Tap the trash on a conversation and a quick confirmation checks with you before anything is gone, so a chat you’ve spent hours in never disappears with a stray tap.
Not feeling a reply? Tap ↻ and your character tries again — and the first reply stays. Keep up to five versions, flip between them with the arrows, and carry the conversation on from the one you love most.
Reach the end of a chapter and the button to keep going now shows you where the story could head next — a title for the next chapter, waiting right there. Tap it to see your choices for what happens next.
Keep a chapter going and the story keeps moving. The writing now holds your whole chapter in mind, so every new passage builds on what just happened and brings something fresh to the page — in whatever language you write in.
Your characters answer faster than ever. Send a message and their reply starts appearing in about a second, so every conversation feels like a real back-and-forth — even deep in the middle of a scene.
Your author page has a fresh new look. Your photo, name and bio sit together at the top with your stories right below, and all your profile tools live in one simple menu — share your page, or update your photo, username and bio.
We rebuilt how NovelX comes up with story ideas. Pick a few tags for the vibe you’re in the mood for and get two fully written ideas to choose from. Not quite right? Ask for two more. Found the one? Start your story straight from it.
Steamy and explicit stories just got a lot hotter. Ask for a scene and that’s the scene you get — in this chapter, played out in full, written closer and more vividly, with the heat on the page instead of skipped past.
Pictures inside your chapters aren’t final anymore. Regenerate one and your prompt comes back ready to tweak, with the new version beside the old so you keep the one you like — or edit it to fix a detail without starting over.
Writing on novelx.ai from your phone’s browser is so much smoother. The top of the page is one slim bar, so your story starts right away. Chapters, renaming and appearance sit in simple sheets, and a new story slides up from the bottom of the screen.
Characters now answer at full length by default — more of the moment in every reply. What they do and what they say are set apart, so every reply reads like a scene from a story.
Your world now has a home of its own. Write down the places, objects, rules and history that are true in your universe — pin the ones that should always be in mind, and the rest arrive when the story names them. They outlive every chapter you delete. In the writing panel, beside your cast.
Your chats have kept a memory for a while. Now you hold the pen. Hold any line from a message with Remember this, write one in yourself, or forget one — with five seconds to change your mind. Open Memories in the sidebar to see everything they are carrying, in their own words.
Browse ideas on the home page writes much better ones now. Pick what you are in the mood for and you get a real opening — a scene already happening, with people in it, that you would actually want to keep reading.
The people you write about join your cast on their own. Name someone new in a chapter and they are in the list as soon as it lands. And if it is someone you already made — under a stage name, a nickname, or a different spelling — they land on that character instead of arriving twice.
Copy a story you’ve already written. Start the new one from the beginning — same cast, cover and settings, a fresh opening to pick — or from where you are, with every chapter still in place. The original is never touched. Copy story is in the card menu in your library.
Every story card in the app now names the character whose eyes the chapter is told from. Tap the name, pick someone else, and the card is rewritten from where they stand — so the vantage is a choice you make. Leave it on Auto and nothing changes.
After you make a character, one screen asks where this starts. You get three openings written for them, a place to write your own, and a skip if you’d rather begin without a scene. Pick the moment you meet, then start chatting.
Type a name you already have in your library and they appear under the idea box, already selected. Tap one to leave them out. The person you named is the person who walks into the story — same face, same character.
When someone new is named in a chapter, they join your cast. You’ll see them in the list with everyone else, so you can write them, look through their eyes, or keep them when the rest of the cast changes.
Every story card now names the character whose eyes the chapter is told from. Tap the name, pick someone else, and the card is rewritten from where they stand — so the vantage is a choice you make, not something you discover by reading. Leave it on Auto and nothing changes. Coming to the iOS app in the next few days.
The writer in the app can now change its mind. Rewrite a chapter with a note about what to change, restart it from scratch, or take back just the last stretch NovelX wrote — and undo any of it if you preferred what you had. All from the ··· menu, without opening the website.
Chapters written in the app now keep their earlier drafts. Open Version History from the ··· menu, look back through what a chapter used to be, and restore any version you want. Rewrite as freely as you like — the draft you liked is still there.
Your conversations are easier to find and tell apart. Each character has one card showing how many chats you have had with them, every previous conversation shows its last message, and starting a new one keeps the story you had chosen. You can also ask a character for a different reply.
Your library can now be sorted by Last edited, so the story you worked on most recently sits at the top and picking up where you left off takes one click. It is in the sort menu, directly under Newest first. Asked for twice on Discord — thank you.
Your story is far less likely to circle back on itself as it grows. Long chapters used to lose variety toward the end — the same beat, the same paragraph, coming round again. They now hold their range from the first line to the last. This is a big change to how we write, and we’re still improving it.
Like four of your five characters? Take a fresh pass at just the one. Reshuffle gives that character a new description and personality while they keep the same face, so the person you pictured is still the person you get. Nothing changes until you accept it, so press it as often as you like.
Write to a character in your language and the conversation stays there — from your first message to your last, instead of drifting into English partway through. It holds across all sixteen languages we support, and a short message no longer pulls your chat off course.
The choices for what happens next now appear sooner once a chapter finishes, and they’re waiting for you by the time you get there. If one is slow in coming, the story quietly sorts it out on its own — so you’re never left at the end of a chapter with nowhere to go.
The character’s reply now reads as prose on the page instead of sitting in a chat bubble, and their controls moved into the header. Photos can take on a different look — choose a style before you send. And any message can become a story: long-press it on your phone, or use the ⋯ menu on desktop. Copy, edit and delete now work on mobile too.
Publishing your story and letting others build on it used to be one decision — refusing the second meant unpublishing the first. A reader asked for exactly this split. Now, if your story is public and on Explore, you decide whether others may use it as a template for their own creations. The switch is in your story settings.
The library went wide — six covers to a row, twenty-four to a page. Starting a story no longer sends you back out through the marketing page; the idea box opens where you are. And your conversations finally have their own address: Stories, Chats and Characters as three shelves in one place.
Listening got steadier. Playback used to start from the wrong paragraph, skip sections, or stop early and quietly — and pressing play could do nothing at all. Now it begins where it should, waits visibly when the next audio is still being made, and play always produces sound.
Continuing a story into a new part could quietly lose what you had set — heat, story language and word preferences, on roughly half of new parts. A Russian series could come back in English. New parts now inherit your choices, and the recap keeps its opening line.
Writing does not have to be dark. The editor now offers a light theme, and the gradient background can be turned off for a plain surface. Both are free, and the control sits in the header next to your avatar.
Export is no longer PDF only. One Export button now lets you choose the scope and the format: EPUB for e-readers with the cover and images included, Markdown for Obsidian or Scrivener, plain Text to paste anywhere, and PDF as before.
Pick a character from your Library and start a brand-new story with them, instead of importing them after chapter one is written. You can also share any character by link — whoever opens it can save them to their own library and write with them.
Explore has a rebuilt browsing surface: filters sit inside the search field, the trope picker opens as a full overlay, spice level reads as a word instead of a number, and every shelf on the homepage opens its own slice of the catalog. Coming back from a story returns you where you were.
We'd love to hear your ideas! Your feedback helps us make NovelX better for everyone.
