Chapter 9

Jay reports to the suite finding it both shameful and erotic that he delivered himself willingly to be abused and defiled. When he enters the suite he realises he will endure another gangbang. Seven men await him but before the gangbang starts he is instructed to perform a strip tease for them. Jay dances sexily flashing his nipples, genitals and arse to the men. Treating each one to a brief lap dance before moving on to the next man.

The corridor to suite four is a sterile, white tube lit by harsh blue panels overhead. Jay walks it with the quiet, plodding gait of a man reporting for a shift. His heart isn't racing. His palms aren't sweaty. There’s a different heat coiling low in his gut, a thick, shameful warmth that has nothing to do with fear and everything to do with the click of his own heels on the deck. He is delivering himself. Willingly. The ignominy of it is a dark, erotic current under his skin. He doesn't fight it. He follows its pull.

The door to suite four is open, a rectangle of warm, amber light cutting into the corridor's chill. He steps across the threshold.

The suite is larger than he expected. The air is warmer, thick with the scent of clean male bodies and a faint, sharp note of anticipation. The wide padded berth is against the far wall. It is not empty. Seven men are arranged around the space. Some lean against the walls, arms crossed. Two sit on the edge of the berth. One stands by the viewport, silhouetted against the streaking stars. All of them are looking at him.

Jay stops just inside the door, which seals behind him with a soft hiss. The realization is a cold stone dropped into the warm pool of his shame. Seven. It’s not a private session. It’s another gangbang. His new tattoos, still tender under his thin shipsuit, seem to pulse: CUMDUMP. WHORE. FUCK ME. The labels aren't accusations. They are a schedule.

"On the mark," a voice says. It belongs to a broad-shouldered man with a close-cropped beard. He nods to a spot of bare floor in the center of the room, circled by their positions. "Strip. Make it a show."

There is no preamble. No negotiation. The instruction is a flat fact. Jay's body moves before his mind can formulate a protest that doesn't exist anymore. He walks to the center of the circle. The recycled air feels cool on his skin. He turns, a slow rotation, meeting each set of eyes. Their expressions vary—boredom, appraisal, mild interest. None are cruel. None are kind. They are consumers waiting for the product to perform.

He brings his hands to the seal at his collar. The sound of the fabric parting is loud in the quiet room. He peels the grey shipsuit down his shoulders, letting it catch on his arms. He turns his back to one cluster of men, shrugging the material down to his waist, revealing the lean muscles of his back, the stark black lines of his tattoos. He hears a low hum of approval.

He pushes the suit over his hips. It pools at his feet. He steps out of it, naked. The air touches every part of him. He faces them again, hands at his sides. He is hard. His cock stands thick and leaking against his thigh, a blatant, humiliating betrayal. He sees a few eyebrows raise. Smirks touch mouths. His arousal is part of the entertainment.

"Music," the bearded man says. A low, pulsing synth beat fills the room from hidden speakers.

Jay closes his eyes for a second. When he opens them, his gaze is unfocused, looking through the men, not at them. He starts to move. His hips find the rhythm. It’s not a dance he knows. It’s a crude, mechanical undulation. He runs his hands over his own chest, pinches his nipples until they peak into hard points, flashes them to the man on his left.

He turns, bends over slowly, placing his hands on his knees, presenting his arse to the two men seated on the berth. He looks back at them through his legs, his cock hanging heavy, and gives a slow, deliberate shake. A laugh, short and dry, cracks the air.

He straightens, approaches the first man by the wall. This is the lap dance. He gets close, but doesn't touch. He grinds his hips in the air before the seated man's lap, his cock bobbing. He reaches down, takes himself in hand, gives two slow strokes, showing the bead of clear fluid at his tip. The man watches, face impassive. Jay moves on.

For the next man, he turns, drops into a low squat, and rocks back, letting his balls and the tight pucker of his hole be seen before rising in a fluid motion. His skin is sheened with a light sweat now. The heat in the room is building. His own smell, musky and aroused, mixes with theirs.

He works his way around the circle. For a younger man with watchful eyes, Jay gets on his knees before the chair, leans in, and flicks his tongue over his own nipple, maintaining eye contact as he does it. The degradation is precise. He is degrading himself for them. The shame is a live wire in his chest, and every movement, every lewd display, sends a jolt of that shame straight to his groin.

He reaches the man by the viewport last. This one is older, his face lined. Jay presses close, his back to the man's front, and grinds his bare arse against the rough fabric of the man's trousers. He reaches a hand behind himself, groping blindly, finding the hard bulge in the man's pants. He rubs against it, his own breath coming in short gasps now. He can feel the man's heartbeat through the layers of cloth.

He finishes the rotation back in the center. The music fades. He is panting, slick with sweat, his erection aching and untouched by anyone but himself. The silent appraisal of the seven men is heavier than any touch. His performance is over. The prelude is complete.

The silence after the music ends is absolute. The seven men don't move. The broad-shouldered one with the beard points a thick finger at the berth. "On your back. Legs open. And ask for it."

Jay walks to the berth. The padded surface yields under his knees as he climbs on. He lies back. The ceiling is a smooth, unbroken grey. He spreads his legs, letting his knees fall wide, presenting everything. The cool air of the suite touches his exposed hole, making it clench. His cock, still hard, curves up toward his navel, leaking steadily onto his stomach.

"Say it," the bearded man commands, his voice a low rumble. The other men begin to undress, the sounds of belts, zippers, and soft fabric rustling filling the space around Jay's prone body.

Jay's throat is dry. He swallows. The words are a foul, necessary grease for the machine. "Please," he says, the word scraping out. "Please use me."

"Louder."

He closes his eyes. The shame is a scalding bath. "Please. I need it. Use me. Fuck me."

"What are you?"

"The whore." His voice breaks on the word. "I'm your whore. Please. Fuck me, like a bitch."

A hand, large and rough, grips his inner thigh, fingers digging into the muscle. Jay's eyes fly open. The bearded man is there, naked now, his own thick erection in his other hand. He's guiding himself, the broad, ruddy tip pressing against Jay's entrance. There is no lubricant but the slick from Jay's own leaking cock. The pressure is immense, blunt, and burning.

Jay gasps. His body locks, resisting. "Please," he whimpers, the begging now real, visceral. "Please, sir."

The man pushes. The stretch is a white-hot tear. Jay cries out, back arching off the berth. The invasion is brutal, a relentless, splitting fullness. The man sheathes himself to the hilt in one slow, excruciating thrust. He stops, buried inside, letting Jay feel every inch. Jay can feel the man's pubic bone grinding against his balls, the brutal intimacy of it. His own cock jumps, spilling another clear thread onto his skin.

The man begins to move. Deep, grinding pulls followed by hard, punching thrusts. The berth creaks. Jay's body is rocked with each drive. He turns his head to the side, eyes unfocused, seeing the legs of the other men now standing around the berth, a forest of thighs and erect cocks. Hands land on him. One pinches his nipple hard. Another wraps around his own cock, stroking him in time with the thrusts.

The rhythm is established. The first man pulls out, slick and glistening. Another takes his place immediately, this one thinner but longer. The new angle is sharper, deeper. Jay grunts, the air forced from his lungs. This one fucks faster, a piston. The hand on Jay's cock speeds up, the friction delicious and terrible. He's being orchestrated, his body a instrument played by many.

The second man finishes with a rough groan, spilling inside him, the wet heat a shocking internal stain. He pulls out. The third is already mounting him, not waiting. Jay is slick now, with sweat and spend and his own shame. The third man enters easily, a smooth, disgusting slide. He leans over Jay, his breath hot on Jay's neck. "You take it so well, cumdump," he murmurs, the words a poison caress. The praise is worse than a slap.

Jay feels a pressure building low in his gut, a coil tightening despite the violation, because of it. The hands are everywhere—on his hips, his chest, gripping his hair to hold his head still. A thumb presses against his lips. He opens his mouth obediently. The thumb pushes in, tasting of salt and skin. He sucks on it, hollowing his cheeks, another performed degradation.

The third man finishes. The fourth rolls Jay onto his stomach without a word. The new position is more vulnerable, his face pressed into the padding, his arse raised. He feels hands spreading his cheeks wide, holding him open. The fourth man enters him from behind, the thrusts jarring. Each drive pushes Jay's body forward, his aching cock rubbing against the rough fabric of the berth. The stimulation is indirect, maddening.

He hears low conversations around him, the men discussing docking schedules. They are using him while talking about work. He is scenery. Furniture. His humiliation is complete, and it fans the fire in his core. He is going to come. The realization is a final surrender.

The fourth man pulls out. A fifth takes his place, this one the youngest. He fucks with frantic, unskilled energy. It’s this, the clumsy, eager thrusting, that trips the wire. The combined friction, the fullness, the utter abasement, crests. Jay’s body seizes. A broken sound tears from his throat, muffled by the bedding. His cock jerks, pulsing, painting the padding under him with his own release. The orgasm is a shuddering collapse, a wave of pleasure so intertwined with shame it feels like drowning.

The thick cock rams past his lips, hitting the back of his throat. Jay gags, his eyes watering. The man in his mouth grabs the back of his head, fingers tangling in his hair, and sets a brutal, shallow rhythm. Saliva spills down Jay’s chin. He can’t breathe through his nose. The smell of sweat and musk is overwhelming.

Two other pairs of hands seize his wrists. They pull his arms wide, place his palms around hard, hot flesh. His fingers are curled around two different cocks. One is slick with pre-come, the other veined and throbbing. They squeeze his hands, showing him the rhythm: up, twist, down. He obeys. His hands begin to move, jerking them off in time with the thrusts fucking his mouth.

From behind, the sixth man is still buried in his arse, driving into him with deep, grinding strokes. Jay is a nexus of violation. He is stuffed at every entrance, his body a conduit for their use. The stretch in his ass is a familiar, burning ache. The choke of the cock in his throat is a raw, panicked sensation. The dual friction in his palms is a mechanical task.

He tries to focus on a single point—a rivet on the ceiling panel above him. His vision blurs with unshed tears. The sounds are a wet, slapping symphony: the slap of hips against his, the slick slide of his hands on skin, the choked gurgle from his own throat. The man fucking his face grunts, his rhythm becoming erratic, punishing.

“Swallow it, bitch,” the man at his mouth growls, his thrusts turning sharp and final. Jay feels the hot, salty pulse hit his tongue, the back of his throat. He has no choice. He swallows convulsively, the bitter taste flooding his mouth. The man pulls out, smearing the last of it across Jay’s cheek.

Immediately, another cock replaces it. This one is thinner, pushing in before Jay can cough, before he can breathe. He chokes again, his chest heaving. The hands on his wrists tighten, forcing his grip on the other two cocks to tighten in turn.

The man in his ass picks up pace, his thrusts becoming shorter, harder. Jay feels the familiar internal flood as the man comes, the wet heat adding to the mess inside him. The man pulls out with a slick pop. Jay sags forward for a second, empty, but the cock in his mouth holds him upright.

The seventh and final man moves behind him. There’s no pause. A blunt pressure, then a fresh, tearing stretch as this last cock breaches him. It’s over-slick now, a disgusting, easy slide. Jay’s body is just a used sheath. The man fucks him with a steady, workmanlike pace, one hand braced on Jay’s hip, the other shoving his head down further onto the cock in his mouth.

Jay’s jaw aches, his ass is raw and burning. The shame has crystallized into a cold, hard fact in his center. This is what he is. A receptacle. A set of holes. The tattoos on his skin—Whore, Fuck Me—are not insults. They are operating instructions.

The man he’s sucking reaches his climax. Jay takes it, swallows again, the act now reflex. That cock withdraws. The air hitting his wet, abused lips is cold. He gasps, dragging in ragged breaths that smell of sex and sweat and men.

The last man behind him finishes with a final, deep thrust, his body going rigid. He holds there, pumping his release into the already-full channel, then slumps over Jay’s back for a moment, his weight heavy. Then he, too, pulls out.

The silence is broken by hands. They grab his arms, his shoulders, hauling him off the soiled berth. His legs buckle, but they hold him upright, dragging his limp form to the center of the room. The cool floor plating bites into his knees. They form a loose circle around him, seven naked figures backlit by the soft glow of the wall panels. Their shadows fall across him like bars.

"Clean up," the bearded man says, his voice flat. He steps forward, his spent cock hanging heavy and glistening. He pushes it toward Jay's face.

Jay's mind is a blank static. His body moves on a conditioned track. He leans forward, opens his mouth, and takes the soft, salty flesh between his lips. He runs his tongue along the shaft, cleaning the mixed fluids—his own saliva, their spend, the sweat. The taste is bitter, metallic, human. He does it methodically, a mechanic servicing a part.

One by one, they present themselves. He cleans the thin one, the long one, the young one with frantic energy still buzzing in his thighs. He licks and sucks until each cock is clean, until they are hard again in his mouth. The re-arousal is the most profound humiliation. He is so effective at this that he reignites their need. His shame is the fuel.

"Now," the bearded man says, his hand fisting in Jay's hair, tilting his head back. "Look up. Open your mouth. Don't close your eyes."

Jay obeys. He stares at the grey ceiling, his mouth open wide, a waiting vessel. The first man stands over him, stroking himself. Jay sees the muscles in the man's stomach clench. The first hot stripe hits his cheek, slapping against the skin with a wet sound. The second lands on his chin. The third splashes across his open lips. The taste bursts, salty and thick.

The second man steps up. His release is more forceful, painting Jay's forehead, getting in his eyelashes. Jay blinks rapidly, the world going blurry. The fluid is warm, then quickly cool in the recycled air.

They take turns. It becomes a ritual. Each man positions himself, grunts, and marks Jay's upturned face. The cum lands in his hair, drips off his nose, pools in the hollow of his throat. He keeps his mouth open as ordered. Some aim for it. He feels the sudden, warm splash on his tongue, the back of his throat. He swallows reflexively, each gulp a documented defeat.

When the seventh man finishes, Jay's face is a mask of it. It drips, slow and viscous, onto his chest. He breathes through his mouth, the smell overpowering—musky, cloying, the scent of his own total use.

The bearded man hasn't moved. He looks down at Jay, his expression unreadable. "You're still thirsty." He nods to the others. "Give him a real drink."

Understanding dawns, cold and absolute. Jay tries to shake his head, but the hand in his hair holds him fast. The youngest man steps forward, his cock in his hand. He isn't hard, but after a moment of concentration, a weak, clear stream arcs out. It hits Jay's lips, splashes against his teeth.

The taste is acrid, chemical, profoundly alien yet utterly human. Jay gags, tries to twist away. The hand in his hair becomes a vise. "Swallow," the bearded man commands, his voice low and final.

Jay closes his eyes. He stops resisting. He opens his throat. The warm, bitter flow fills his mouth. He swallows. It burns going down and Jay is sure he can feel it all the way to his stomach where it pools heavily. The man empties his bladder into Jay, the stream eventually trickling to a stop.

Another man takes his place. Then another. They use his mouth as a toilet. The humiliation is a physical weight, a sinking stone in his gut. The liquid is hot, each mouthful a violation deeper than any fuck. He drinks it all. He has no choice. His body accepts it. His mind fractures around it.

As the fifth man pisses down his throat, something snaps loose inside Jay. The degradation is total, absolute. There is no lower point to reach. And from that void, a spark ignites. A traitorous, shameful heat uncoils in his groin. His soft cock twitches against his thigh, then stiffens, rising fully amidst the filth coating his skin.

The men see it. A low chuckle ripples through the circle. "Look at that," someone murmurs, tone thick with disgusted awe.

The final streams splash over his face, mixing with the drying spend, washing it in bitter yellow. They are done. The hand releases his hair. Jay sags forward, catching himself on his hands, vomiting a little of the foul liquid onto the floor between his palms. His body shakes violently. Yet his erection persists, aching and obscene.

The orgasm takes him without touch. It is a convulsion of utter defeat. His back arches, a strangled cry ripped from his sore throat. His cock pulses, jetting his own release onto the floor, adding his seed to the pool of waste. The pleasure is a sharp, shameful sting, a neurological betrayal so complete it feels like death.

He collapses onto his side, curled in the mess, trembling. The men step back. They dress in silence, the sounds of fabric and buckles the only noise besides Jay's ragged, wet breathing. They file out. The door sighs shut. The lock engages.

Jay lies there for a long time. The cold from the floor seeps into his bones. The smell envelops him. He feels the sticky, drying layers on his face, his chest. The hollow inside him is no longer empty. It is filled with a cold, solid certainty. This is not something being done to him. This is what he is. The tattoos are not labels. They are truths. He is a piss hole. A cum dump. His own arousal proved it. His body had voted, and it had chosen this.

Slowly, he pushes himself up. He doesn't look for the towel. He stumbles to the small sanitizer cubicle in the corner. He turns on the sonic cleaner. It doesn't use water. It vibrates the filth away in a cloud of fine, dry mist. He stands under it, eyes closed, as it strips the layers from his skin. It leaves him feeling sterile, scoured, blank.

He steps out, clean and naked. The room still smells. He walks back to the berth. He walks back toward the whore’s rest room. He is a used thing, waiting to be used again. The shame has settled, hardened into a kind of peace. The fight is gone. In its place is a simple, dreadful readiness.

The door to the whore’s rest room whispers open, and Jay steps through. The air here is different—warmer, smelling of cheap synth-soap and tired bodies. He doesn’t look at anyone. He just walks toward an empty bunk niche, his steps automatic, the sterile clean of the sonic scrubber still clinging to his skin like a ghost.

“Hey. New meat.”

The voice is Kira’s. Jay keeps moving, but a shadow falls across his path. He stops, eyes fixed on the floor plating.

“Look at me,” Kira says, not unkindly. It’s a command he knows.

He lifts his head. Kira is standing there, arms crossed, her sharp eyes scanning him. They pause at his hairline. A slow smirk spreads across her face. “Oh, sweetie. You missed a spot.”

Jay’s hand twitches at his side. He knows. He’d felt the stubborn, gummy patch near his temple when the sonic mist dissipated. He’d left it. A part of him wanted it there. Proof.

“What, they didn’t have a mirror in there?” Jax calls from a nearby couch, not looking up from polishing his nails with a chamois cloth.

“Looks like they used his face for one,” Mara says, her voice a dry rasp. She takes a drag from a vapor stick, the tip glowing in the dim light.

Kira reaches out. Jay flinches, a micro-movement he can’t suppress. Her fingers are gentle as they touch his hair, probing. They come away with a stringy, white residue clinging to her fingertips. She holds it up, showing the room.

“Classic rookie mistake,” Birdy chirps from her bunk. “You gotta check the ears, too. Always pools in the ears.”

Jay’s face burns. This shame is different. It’s not the hot, sharp shame of the men using him. This is cold. Communal. A professional critique of his degradation. He’s not just filthy. He’s poorly cleaned. Inadequate at being a thing.

“It’s not a mistake,” he hears himself say. His voice is hoarse, scraped raw from gagging.

The room goes quiet for a beat.

Kira raises an eyebrow. “Explain.”

He swallows, the ghost of bitter fluid at the back of his throat. “I left it.” He meets her gaze, his own eyes flat. “So I wouldn’t forget what I am.”

Kira stares at him. Then she barks a short, hard laugh. She wipes her fingers on the thigh of her leggings. “Yeah. That’ll happen. The mind tries to make sense of it. You start collecting trophies.” She gestures to her own neck, where a faint, silvery scar sits just above her collarbone. “Mine’s from a client who liked knives. Reminds me I can bleed and still work.”

“Mine’s the permanent smell of ozone,” Jax says casually, still focused on his nails. “Some freak from a methane-atmosphere world. His sweat etched my sinuses. Now every breath tastes like him. My trophy.”

Jay’s certainty wavers. This isn’t a trophy. It’s a stain. A brand. They’re talking about scars. He’s talking about… leftovers. The difference feels important, but he’s too tired to find the edge of it.

“Go shower. The wet kind,” Kira says, her tone shifting to something managerial. “The sonics don’t get the spirit out. Only water does that. And get some rest. Michelle has you on the docket for a full cycle tomorrow. The entertainment lounge followed by back to back clients and then the lounge again for a private booking.”

“A full cycle?” Jay repeats as exhaustion threatens to overwhelm him.

“Yeah. You’re the new novelty. The broken-in mechanic with the shame-hard-on.” Mara exhales a plume of vapor. “They love that. The ones who come here? They wanna see the moment the person dies behind the eyes. You’ve got that look now. It’s marketable.”

The person. Behind the eyes. Jay thinks of the rivet on the ceiling panel. He’d focused so hard it had blurred. Was that the moment? When the rivet became the whole world, and the sounds and the smells and the tastes just became sensations? Input for the thing he was becoming.

“Go on, Jay,” Kira says, softer now. “Shower. Sleep.”

He nods, a mechanical dip of his chin. He turns toward the communal washroom. His reflection glides past a polished bulkhead—a pale ghost with dark, empty holes for eyes. And there, just at the hairline, a dull white smudge.

Inside the washroom, he turns the dial. Real water, recycled and precious, rains down in a tepid stream. He steps under it, tilting his head back. The water runs through his hair, over his face. He opens his mouth, letting it fill, swishing it around like he can purge the memory of taste. He swallows clean water. It doesn’t help.

He scrubs at his hair with a rough block of soap until his scalp stings. He checks. The residue is gone. He feels a pang of loss so sharp it steals his breath. The physical proof is gone. All that’s left is the knowing. The cold, solid fact in his gut.

He dries off with a thin towel. In the rest room, the others are settling into their bunks, their quiet conversations a low hum. No one looks at him. He’s part of the scenery now. He finds his assigned niche. It’s just a padded shelf, really. No blanket. The ship’s ambient temperature is calibrated to keep assets from needing one.

He lies down on his back, staring at the underside of the bunk above him. His body aches in a dozen precise places—his jaw, his thighs, the deep, bruised feeling inside him. The aches are like the tattoos. A map of use. He traces a finger over the raised ink on his buttocks: WHORE.

Tomorrow. A full cycle. He wonders, idly, what new trophies he’ll collect. The thought isn’t fearful. It’s anticipatory. A mechanic reviewing the day’s work orders. His eyes close. The hum of the ship’s systems is a lullaby. He breathes in. He breathes out. He waits.

The voice comes from the bunk above, a whisper that cuts through the steady hum of life support. “Don’t let the full cycle scare you.”

Jay doesn’t move. He keeps staring at the metal mesh of the upper bunk’s support frame. The voice is Birdy’s. Light. Almost musical. It feels out of place in the gloom.

“It’s just work,” Birdy whispers. “You clock in. You clock out. The time in between… you just leave your body at the door.”

“It’s always at the door,” Jay says to the darkness. His own voice sounds alien to him. Hollow. “There’s nothing left to leave.”

There’s a soft rustling above. A faint sigh. “That’s the spirit. But you’re thinking about it wrong. You’re still in there. I can hear him. The mechanic. The one who wants to fix this.”

Jay’s jaw tightens. The ache from earlier flares. “There’s nothing to fix. I’m just a whore for use.”

“See?” Birdy’s whisper is closer now, as if she’s rolled to the edge of her bunk. “That’s him. Assessing. Diagnosing. You can’t diagnose this, Jay. You just… float.”

“Float.” He tests the word. It feels useless. Like advising a shattered reactor coil to just stop being broken.

“Yeah. Tomorrow, when the hands are on you and the words are in your ears, find a spot on the wall. A crack. A smudge. Something ugly. And you just… put yourself there. Your body stays here, doing the job. But you’re over there, in that smudge. Watching.”

He thinks of the rivet on the ceiling panel earlier. He’d already done that, hadn’t he? He’d floated. He’d become the rivet. And yet, he’d still come. His body had still betrayed him with a shuddering, shameful peak.

“It doesn’t work,” he whispers back, the confession sharp in his throat. “The body… it doesn’t follow.”

Birdy is quiet for a long moment. The only sound is Mara’s faint snoring from across the room. “Oh, honey,” Birdy finally breathes, and there’s a real sadness in it. “The body isn’t the enemy. It’s the tool. It’s going to react. It’s wired to. The trick isn’t to stop it. The trick is to stop caring that it happens.”

Stop caring. Jay closes his eyes. The phantom taste of salt and bitterness coats his tongue. The memory of his own choked cries, the sound of skin on skin, the feel of release he didn’t ask for—it all plays behind his eyelids in a sick, vivid loop. How do you stop caring about that?

“You collect the trophies,” Jay says, echoing Kira’s word. “You make scars into medals.”

“You make *anything* into a medal,” Birdy corrects gently. “The orgasm is a medal. It means you performed your function perfectly. The soreness tomorrow? That’s a medal. Proof of a job done. The taste in your mouth? A medal. You endured. You are enduring. That’s all we are. Endurance with a pulse.”

Jay’s hand drifts to his hairline, where the stain was. The ghost of it tingles. He’d wanted it as proof. As a marker. But they were right. It was just poor maintenance. Unprofessional. A trophy isn’t accidental. A trophy is claimed.

“How?” The word is barely air. “How do you claim it?”

Above him, Birdy shifts. Her face appears, upside down, over the edge of the bunk. Her short, spiky hair frames wide eyes. In the low safety light, she looks like a fallen angel. “You say ‘thank you’.”

Jay stares at her. His stomach turns cold. “No.”

“Yes. When he’s inside you. When she’s making you beg. When they’re finishing on your skin. You say ‘thank you’. In your head, or out loud if you can manage. You thank them for the medal. For the proof. You thank them for showing you what you are.”

The horror of it is absolute. It’s a final, total surrender that makes everything before it seem like a childish protest. Gratitude. For this.

“I can’t,” he rasps.

Birdy’s upside-down smile is gentle, terrible. “You will. Or you’ll break for real sooner or later. And broken things get spaced. Useful things get used. You want to be useful, don’t you, mechanic?”

The question hits a deep, buried wire. *He had*. He’d wanted to be useful to Captain Vance. To the crew. That want had walked him into the abyss. That same want is the only thing propelling him now. The need to have a function. A purpose. Even this one.

“Yeah,” he breathes, the truth a poison he finally swallows. “I want to be useful.”

Birdy’s smile widens. She reaches a hand down, her fingers brushing his forehead where the stain had been. A benediction. “Then say thank you. Make it your mantra. It turns the degradation into a duty. It turns the shame into… service.”

She disappears back onto her bunk. The rustling stops.

Jay lies perfectly still. *Thank you.* The words echo in the silent prison of his skull. He tries them on, feeling their shape. They feel like a violation worse than any physical act. To give consent where none was given. To grant approval to his own annihilation.

But beneath the violation, a treacherous, numb sense of order emerges. A system. Input: degradation. Process: endurance. Output: gratitude. A closed loop. A functioning machine. His mechanic’s mind, the very part of him Birdy identified, latches onto the clean logic of it. It’s a fix. A terrible, horrifying fix for a terminal problem.

He turns onto his side, facing the cold alloy wall. He brings his knees up slightly. The aches sing a chorus of today’s use. He presses his forehead against the wall. The metal is cool, unyielding.

“Thank you,” he whispers to the wall, a dry, soundless croak.

Nothing happens. The ship hums. Someone coughs in their sleep. The world does not end. The shame does not melt. It simply… compartmentalizes. It becomes data. A log entry. *Subject expressed gratitude for unspecified event. System operational.*

He closes his eyes. Tomorrow is a full cycle. The lounge. The clients. The private booking. He sees it not as a gauntlet, but as a series of tasks. Procedures. Each one an opportunity to test the new protocol. To collect his medals with intention.

The stain is gone from his hair. But he feels it settling deeper, inside his bones, in the wiring of his thoughts. Not a stain anymore. A badge. Polished and ready to be displayed.

He breathes in. He breathes out. The hum of the ship cradles him. He waits for morning. He waits for use. And in the darkest part of his mind, a new, silent gear begins to turn, preparing the words. *Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.*
