Chapter 7 - First Week

A week goes by. Macy goes to practice daily and the sexual tension between her and Coach Casey grows. Every night, Lupe and Macy masturbate together and enjoy it immensely. Dana starts texting Macy dirty pictures of herself. Macy and Em start eating lunch togher.

The week settled into a rhythm I'd never known before. Practice at four, the track still holding the day's heat, the sun low enough to turn the lanes to gold. I ran. I ran until my lungs burned and my thighs sang, and every time I straightened up, chest heaving, there she was. Coach Hill, clipboard pressed to her hip, those blue eyes tracking me with an attention that made my skin prickle.

"Again," she'd say, and I'd go. I'd go because her voice did something to me, low and clipped, and because when I finished she'd write something down and look at me with that small private nod that felt like a reward.

She never touched me that week. Not once. But she watched. God, she watched. I felt her gaze on my bare legs like a hand, sliding over the sweat-slick skin, catching the late sun. I'd be in my starting blocks, waiting for the pistol, and I'd know exactly where she stood without looking. The edge of the track. Arms crossed. The clipboard dangling from one hand.

Dana was there most days, working with the distance runners on the far side of the field. She'd catch my eye sometimes and smile, that knowing smile, and I'd look away fast, my face burning. I never knew what to do with that smile. It was like she could see right through my shorts.

The days bled together. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Each practice the same shape: warm-up laps, drills, sprints, and Coach Hill's voice calling out times in that flat professional tone. But underneath it all, something was building. A pressure I carried in my chest, in my thighs, in the wet heat between my legs that never quite went away.

Thursday afternoon, the air was thick and still, heavy with the promise of a storm that hadn't broken. I was mid-drill, running the hurdle form she'd drilled into me since tryouts, and I could feel her watching me. Not coaching me. Watching. The way her gaze lingered on my hips when I cleared the hurdle, the way her eyes followed the line of my back as I straightened.

I finished the drill and bent over, hands on my knees, sucking air. The grass was crushed and chalky beneath my spikes, and I could smell it, green and sharp and clean. Sweat dripped off my chin, disappearing into the dust. My bare legs were slick, the late sun catching the sheen and making me glow.

"Good," Coach Hill said, and I looked up. She was standing closer than I'd realized, close enough that I could see the way her polo shirt clung to her shoulders, the dampness at her collar. "Your form's getting cleaner. You're not dropping your lead leg anymore."

"Thanks," I managed.

She held my gaze for a moment, and the air between us went thin. Her eyes were the color of a winter sky, and they were doing something to me, something I couldn't name. I straightened slowly, conscious of the way my chest rose and fell, conscious of the fact that I was wearing the nearly sheer white sports bra and the high-cut black shorts I'd chosen that morning. For her. I'd chosen them for her.

"You're still holding tension in your shoulders," she said, and her voice had dropped. Softer. More intimate. "You're fighting the hurdle instead of flowing over it."

"I'm trying—"

"I know you are." She stepped closer, and I could smell her now, sunscreen and something clean, like soap. "That's why you're going to be good. You try."

Her hand came up, and for a second I thought she was going to touch me. I wanted her to. God, I wanted her to. But she just adjusted the whistle around her neck, pressing it to her lips, and took a step back.

"Go cool down," she said. "You've earned it."

I nodded and turned away, my heart hammering. The team was dispersing, the other girls heading for the locker room, their voices bright and tired. I walked toward the edge of the field, and I could feel her eyes on me. On my back. On my bare legs. On the curve of my ass in those shorts. I knew it, the way you know when someone's looking at you, and it made my skin tingle.

I stopped at the fence, pretending to stretch, and glanced back. She was still standing where I'd left her, clipboard at her side, watching me go. The whistle was still pressed to her lips, and her eyes were dark, unreadable. She didn't look away when I caught her. She just held my gaze, and something passed between us, something I couldn't name but felt in my bones.

Then I turned and walked away, and I could feel the weight of her stare all the way to the locker room.

That night, the dorm was quiet. Lupe was in her bunk above me, and I could hear her breathing, slow and even. I lay on my back, staring at the ceiling, my body still humming from practice. The image of Coach Hill's eyes wouldn't leave me. The way she'd looked at me. The way she hadn't touched me, but I'd felt her anyway.

"Macy?" Lupe's voice came out of the dark, soft and low.

"Yeah?"

"You're thinking about her again."

I didn't answer. I didn't have to.

The mattress creaked as Lupe shifted above me. Then her hand came down over the edge of the bunk, fingers brushing my shoulder. "Come here."

I hesitated, then sat up, and Lupe slid over, making room. The top bunk was narrow, and when I lay down beside her, our bodies pressed together, skin to skin. She was naked, she always slept naked, and the heat of her was a shock against my still-cool skin.

"Tell me what you're thinking about," she whispered, her mouth close to my ear.

"Her," I said. "Coach Hill. The way she looked at me today."

"Yeah?" Lupe's hand found my stomach, sliding under my t-shirt, warm and sure. "How did she look at you?"

"Like she wanted to eat me alive."

Lupe laughed, low and pleased. "Good." Her fingers traced a slow circle on my belly, and I shivered. "You like that, don't you? Being watched."

"I don't know."

"You do," she said. "I've seen you at practice, Macy. You run harder when she's watching. You glow."

I didn't know what to say to that, so I said nothing. Lupe's hand slid lower, over the waistband of my shorts, and I felt her breath on my neck.

"Don't stop," I breathed, and Lupe's fingers paused against my hip.

"You sure?" Her voice was soft in the dark, the words barely there.

"Yes. God, yes. Don't stop."

Her hand slid up under my t-shirt, palm flat against my stomach. The heat of her skin was a brand, and I arched into it without thinking. She took her time, tracing slow circles around my belly button, dipping lower, then back up. Teasing. Learning me.

"You're so soft here," she murmured, her thumb brushing the underside of my ribcage. "But I've seen you run. You're all wire underneath."

I couldn't answer. Her fingers were moving higher, and my breath caught in my throat. The top bunk was narrow, our bodies pressed together from shoulder to hip, and I could feel every inch of her against me. The curve of her breast against my arm. The solid weight of her thigh hooked over mine.

Her fingers found the edge of my bra and slipped beneath it.

I gasped. Her palm cupped my breast, warm and sure, and she made a small sound of satisfaction in her throat.

"There you are," she whispered.

She rolled my nipple between her thumb and forefinger, slow and deliberate, and a bolt of heat shot straight through me. I bucked against her, my hips grinding into the mattress, and she laughed, low and pleased.

"Sensitive," she said. "Good."

She did it again, harder this time, and I bit my lip to keep from crying out. The sound I made was somewhere between a whimper and a moan, and I felt her smile against my neck.

"Don't hold it in," she said. "There's no one here but us."

Her other hand found my other breast, and she worked them both, rolling my nipples between her fingers until they were hard as pebbles, until I was squirming beneath her, my thighs pressed together and aching. The wet heat between my legs was a pulsing thing now, a hunger that had been building all week, all month, all my life, and her touch was pouring gasoline on it.

"Lupe," I gasped.

"I know." Her mouth found my ear, her breath hot. "I know, Macy. I can feel you shaking."

Her hands left my breasts and slid down my sides, over the curve of my waist, my hips. The waistband of my shorts was a thin barrier, and her fingers hooked into it, tugging. I lifted my hips to help her, desperate, and she pulled the shorts down my thighs, leaving me in just my underwear, the thin cotton soaked through.

Her fingers hooked into the waistband of my underwear and tugged. I lifted my hips, and she pulled them down my thighs, over my knees, off. The cool air hit my bare mound, and I felt myself flush, knowing she could see me. All of me. The shaved skin, the small nick that had healed to a thin red line, the wetness I could feel slicking my thighs.

Lupe made a sound low in her throat, almost a hum of approval. Her hand slid down my belly, slow, deliberate, and I felt her fingertips brush the top of my mound. I gasped, my hips bucking off the mattress, and she laughed softly.

"So smooth," she murmured. "You shave."

"Yeah." The word came out breathless. "I—yeah."

Her fingers traced the line of my hip, then dipped lower, parting me. I felt her touch the slick heat between my legs, and my whole body clenched. She didn't push inside. She just rested her fingers there, feeling me, and I could feel her smile against my neck.

"God, Macy. You're so wet."

"I know." My voice was barely a whisper. "I've been—all week. Thinking about—"

"About her. About me." Her fingers began to move, slow circles around my clit, and I bit my lip hard enough to taste copper. "About all of it."

I couldn't answer. Her touch was everywhere and nowhere, teasing the edges of what I needed, and I was shaking, my hands fisting in the sheets beneath me. The top bunk was narrow, and Lupe's body pressed against mine, her thigh hooked over my hip, her breast warm against my arm. I could feel everything. Her breath on my neck. The soft weight of her hair against my shoulder. The slow, patient circling of her fingers.

"Please," I heard myself say. "Lupe, please."

"Please what?" Her voice was soft, almost lazy. "Tell me what you want."

I couldn't speak. I could barely breathe. The top bunk was spinning around me, and Lupe's body was warm against mine, her hand now resting on my stomach, tracing lazy circles on my skin.

She kissed my forehead, soft and sweet, and then she was moving, sliding out of the bunk and down to the floor. I watched her go, my body still humming, and she climbed up to the top mattress, leaving me alone on the bottom bunk.

The space where her body had been was still warm. I could smell her on the sheets, that clean, musky scent, and I pressed my face into the pillow, breathing her in. My heart was still hammering, my thighs still slick, and I could feel the ache building again, low and insistent.

Above me, the mattress creaked as Lupe settled in. I heard her sigh, soft and content, and then, after a moment, I heard something else. A small, breathy sound. A rustle of sheets.

I went still, listening.

Lupe was touching herself.

The sound was unmistakable now, the soft, wet slide of fingers through slick folds, the hitch of breath that followed. I lay on my back, staring at the underside of the top bunk, and I could picture her up there, naked, her hand between her legs, her eyes closed.

I wanted to watch. God, I wanted to watch.

My own hand drifted down my belly, finding the wet heat between my legs. I slid two fingers through my slick folds, circling my clit, and I heard Lupe's breath catch above me.

"Macy?" Her voice was a whisper, barely audible.

"Yeah."

"Are you—"

"Yeah."

There was a pause. Then I heard her laugh, low and pleased. "Good."

We masturbated in the dark, listening to each other. I could hear the rhythm of her breathing, the soft, wet sounds of her fingers moving faster, and I matched my own pace to hers. The room was silent except for our breath, our small, stifled moans, the creak of the bunk as our bodies moved.

I was close again, the pressure building, and I heard Lupe's breathing quicken, a sharp, breathy gasp. She was close too. The knowledge sent a thrill through me, and I pressed my fingers harder, faster, chasing the edge.

"Macy," she gasped. "Macy, I'm—"

"Me too."

We came together, our cries filling the dark, and I heard her shudder above me, the mattress creaking as her body arched. I lay there, trembling, my hand still pressed between my legs, and I felt the aftershocks ripple through me, slow and sweet.

The silence settled around us, soft and warm. I could hear Lupe's breathing slow, evening out into the rhythm of sleep. But I lay awake, staring at the ceiling, my body still humming, my mind racing.

She'd touched me. Everywhere. And she'd stopped before the end, leaving me aching and wanting more. I knew what she was doing. She was making me wait. Making me sure.

And I was sure. I was more sure than I'd ever been about anything.

I turned onto my side, facing the wall, and I let my eyes close. The image of Coach Hill's eyes was there, waiting for me, and I let it come. The way she'd looked at me on the track. The way her gaze had lingered on my bare legs. The way she hadn't touched me, but I'd felt her anyway.

I fell asleep with that image burning behind my eyelids, my body still warm from Lupe's touch, and I dreamed of a hand on my skin, a voice in my ear, a pair of blue eyes watching me from the dark.

I woke to sunlight and the smell of coffee. The top bunk was empty, Lupe's blanket folded at the foot. I lay there for a moment, the memory of the night before washing over me, and I felt a smile tug at my lips.

Saturday. No practice. No coach. Just a day stretching out in front of me, full of possibility.

I showered, the water hot against my skin, and I thought about Lupe's fingers inside me, the way she'd tasted me, the way she'd said my name. I thought about Coach Hill, the way she'd looked at me, the way I'd felt her gaze like a hand on my skin. I thought about Dana, that knowing smile, and about Em, the pale art student with the gray eyes and the snake tattoo.

I was a mess. A beautiful, aching mess.

I dressed in cutoff shorts and a loose tank top, no bra, and I padded out into the common room. Lupe was there, sitting cross-legged on the couch with a mug of coffee, a textbook open in her lap. She looked up when I walked in, and her eyes softened.

"Morning," she said.

"Morning." I sat down beside her, close enough that our knees touched. "Coffee?"

"There's some in the pot." She gestured with her mug. "I made it strong."

I got up and poured myself a cup, the ceramic warm in my hands, and I sat back down beside her. The silence between us was comfortable, full of the night before, a secret we shared.

"So," Lupe said, not looking up from her book. "Did you sleep well?"

I felt my cheeks heat. "Yeah. Did you?"

"Mm." She turned a page. "I slept great."

I could hear the smile in her voice, and I ducked my head, hiding my own. The coffee was strong and bitter, and I drank it slowly, feeling the warmth spread through me.

"What are you studying?" I asked.

"Thermodynamics." She grimaced. "It's brutal."

"Sounds it."

We sat in comfortable silence for a while, the morning light slanting through the window, dust motes spinning in the air. I watched Lupe's profile, the way her brow furrowed as she read, the way she chewed on her lower lip when she was thinking. She was beautiful, and I wanted her, and I knew now, with a certainty that settled in my bones, that she wanted me too.

"Lupe," I said.

She looked up. "Yeah?"

"Last night—" I hesitated. "That was—"

"Good?" She smiled, slow and knowing. "It was good for me too."

"It was more than good." I set my mug down, turning to face her. "I've never—no one's ever—"

"I know." Her voice was soft. "I know, Macy. That's why I stopped."

I blinked. "What?"

"I stopped because I wanted you to be sure," she said. "I wanted you to know what you want, not just what your body wants. There's a difference."

I stared at her. "I am sure."

"Are you?" She held my gaze. "Are you sure you want me? Or are you sure you want to want someone?"

The question hit me like a wall. I opened my mouth to answer, to insist, but the words wouldn't come. Because she was right. I didn't know. I knew I wanted her—God, I wanted her—but I also wanted Coach Hill, and Dana, and Em. I wanted everyone. I was a bottomless pit of want, and I didn't know what that meant.

"I don't know," I said finally, the words barely a whisper. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry." Lupe reached out, her hand finding mine. "That's exactly what I mean. You're figuring yourself out. And when you know—really know—I'll be here."

She squeezed my hand, and I felt tears prick at my eyes. Not sadness. Something else. Gratitude, maybe. Relief.

"Thank you," I said.

"Don't thank me yet." Her smile turned wicked. "Wait until you see what I have planned for you."

I laughed, the sound bright and unexpected, and she laughed with me. The morning light felt warmer, the coffee sweeter, and for a moment, the world was simple.

Then the phone rang.

Lupe got up to answer it, her bare feet padding across the floor. I watched her pick up the receiver, heard her voice, soft and curious. Then she turned, holding the phone out to me.

"It's for you," she said. "It's Coach Hill."

My heart stopped.

I took the phone, my hand trembling, and I pressed it to my ear. "Hello?"

"Macy." Her voice was low, intimate, the same voice she used when she said good girl. "I hope I'm not calling too early."

"No," I managed. "You're fine."

"Good." A pause. "I was wondering if you'd like to come by the track this afternoon. Just you. I want to work on your starts."

The world tilted. "Just me?"

"Just you." Another pause, longer this time. "I think you're ready for something more."

I could feel Lupe's eyes on me, watching, and I knew she could hear the change in my voice. I didn't care. All I could think about was Coach Hill, her blue eyes, her low voice, the promise hidden in her words.

"Okay," I said. "I'll be there."

"Good." I heard the smile in her voice. "I'll see you at two, Macy."

The line went dead.

I stood there for a long moment, the phone still pressed to my ear, my heart hammering against my ribs. Then I set the receiver down and turned to Lupe, who was watching me with an unreadable expression.

"What did she want?" she asked.

"She wants to work on my starts," I said. "Just me. At two."

Lupe was silent for a moment. Then she nodded slowly. "Okay."

"Okay?"

"Okay." She smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Just be careful, Macy. She's not—" She stopped, shaking her head. "Just be careful."

I wanted to ask what she meant. I wanted to ask what she knew. But the words stuck in my throat, and all I could do was nod.

"I will," I said.
