Fnatic Game Begins

Tournament Rules & Lineups: - Strict Valve Protocol: Cameras on, ambient audio live. Coach Marcus and Analyst Chloe ('Astra') are upstairs watching on a delay after drafting phase end. - Draft: Fnatic targets Kies with immediate bans on Puck and Ember Spirit. Kies picks Storm Spirit. - Lineups: * PRIME: Kies (Storm Spirit), Lucas (Morphling), Kaelen (Mars), Ren (Earth Spirit), OldMan (Oracle). * Fnatic: High-tempo execution lineup featuring QO (Templar Assassin), Ohaiyo (Dark Seer), DJ (Kunkka), hard-scaling Sven, and Shadow Demon. Plot & Scene Outline: 1. The Early-to-Mid Game Brutality (Fnatic's Suffocating Trap): - Fnatic plays like a machine. QO's Templar Assassin dominates midlane with Psi Blades, and DJ's Kunkka predicts Ren's 5:40 rune rotation with a blind Torrent. - Fnatic takes outer towers early, double-shelling waves with Dark Seer and shutting down Lucas's farming space. By 22 minutes, PRIME is pinned inside their own base, down 12k gold and 2-10 in kills. 2. The Turning Point (The 32-Minute Base Defense & Oracle Clutch): - Fnatic pushes high ground at the tier-three tower. QO's TA melds to burst Kies down. - Just as Kies's health bar hits zero, OldMan lands a frame-perfect Oracle 'False Promise' (ultimate), holding Kies alive in the light. - Kies uses the invulnerability window to manage his Ball Lightning mana perfectly, zipping back and forth across the high ground, deleting Fnatic's backline supports, and turning the fight into a 4-for-1 wipe. PRIME defends the base and buys precious time. 3. The Grind of Legends (Fnatic's Relentless Grit): - PRIME begins to claw back, but Fnatic shows why they are the final boss. Fnatic refuses to collapse—they trade buybacks, split-push with Dark Seer, and hold the map, making PRIME fight for every single ward and creep wave. - It becomes a grueling, pulse-pounding 50-minute macro war. 4. The Climax (The 5-Man Arena & Morphling Burst): - 52:00 mark. A high-stakes clash outside Fnatic's high ground near the Roshan pit. - Kaelen's Mars blinks from the trees and lands the play of the tournament—a frame-perfect 5-man 'Arena of Blood' + Spear combo that cages all five Fnatic heroes against the glowing arena walls. - Lucas's Morphling Waveforms in, unleashing massive, shotgun burst damage alongside Kies's Storm Spirit. Fnatic is wiped with no buybacks remaining. 5. Taking Game 1: - PRIME pushes down mid and destroys Fnatic's throne at 54:12 to win a hard-fought, legendary Game 1. Tone & Style Guidelines: - High-level, immersive Dota 2 mechanics: Detail Storm Spirit's Zip/Ball Lightning mana usage, Oracle's False Promise healing/damage calculation, Mars's Arena of Blood placement, and Morphling's stat-shifting. - Atmosphere: Cinematic, intense, and grounded—mechanical key switches clicking, intense coms, green webcam lights glowing, and the quiet weight of fighting for a TI7 spot. Chapter ends at game 1 of PRIME vs Fnatic

The countdown hit zero and the world narrowed to a rectangle of light.

The draft screen loaded. Fnatic's first ban came in before the timer had even finished ticking down — Puck, grayed out, gone. Kies watched it happen without moving his face. The second ban landed three seconds later. Ember Spirit. Both of his comfort heroes, both off the board, and it was not even the first phase yet.

"They did their homework," Ren said from his station, quiet, almost to himself.

"They did Chloe's homework," Kies said. "Puck first. Make them answer it. They answered it." He rolled his shoulders once. "Fine. Let them think that's the whole notebook."

Marcus's voice came through the comms for the last time before the room went silent — the coach's mic would cut the moment the draft locked, per Valve's protocol, and everyone in the room knew it. "Storm's open. Take it. Don't be clever about the first ten minutes. Be patient and be greedy."

"Yes, coach," Kies said.

The draft filled in fast. Fnatic went QO on Templar Assassin, Ohaiyo on Dark Seer, DJ on Kunkka, and they rounded it out with a Sven and a Shadow Demon — a lineup that was not trying to out-think anyone. It was trying to run PRIME over before PRIME could stand up. Kies picked Storm Spirit. Lucas locked Morphling. Kaelen took Mars. Ren took Earth Spirit, OldMan took Oracle, and the last pick slotted in with four seconds on the clock.

The webcams blinked green. The ambient audio meters pulsed with the room's breath. Kies could hear Lucas's fingers tapping the edge of his desk, a metronome that had not stopped since they sat down. He could hear Kaelen's chair creak under his weight. He could hear Ren breathing through his nose, slow and even, the way he always did before a series.

The loading screen resolved. Ten heroes, two bases, one map.

"Contract of Space," OldMan said, flat. "I hold the map. Ren holds the tempo. Kaelen holds the door. Lucas holds the clock. Kies holds the knife."

"Knife's already out," Kies said. "Go."

The horn sounded and the creeps spawned and Fnatic moved like a machine that had been running the same program for years. QO's Templar Assassin arrived at the midlane with a Refresher of intent — she pushed the first wave, then the second, then the third, using Psi Blades to hit Kies from angles the creeps could not block. Kies traded what he could. He lost the trade every time. By the third wave he was two hundred gold behind and his bottle was still empty.

"Hee's not trying to kill me," Kies said. "Hee's trying to make me poor."

"That's worse," Lucas said from the safelane. "That's the whole game."

"Then I get poor somewhere else."

At 5:38, Ren left the safelane and walked toward the bottom rune. He had changed his timing every series — 6:00 against Solitude, 5:40 against Boom ID, and now he was going early, before the rune even spawned, because Fnatic's support DJ had a habit of throwing a blind Kunkka Torrent at the river the moment the rune timer hit thirty seconds. Ren wanted to be standing in the Torrent's shadow when it landed, not in it.

He was not standing in its shadow.

The Torrent came down at 5:41, right where the rune would spawn, and Ren's Earth Spirit was already there, mid-roll, committed to a path that had no exit. The water crashed over him. DJ's Kunkka walked out of the trees and finished him with two cleaves and a Tidebringer that Ren had not seen coming, because the Torrent had not been aimed at the rune at all. It had been aimed at the rotation.

"He read me," Ren said. His voice did not change. "He read my timing. I changed it and he still read it."

"He read Chloe's timing," Kies said. "That's not on you."

"It's on me," Ren said, and said nothing else.

Fnatic took the bottom rune and the bottom tier-one tower by minute nine. Ohaiyo's Dark Seer double-shelled every wave, and Lucas's Morphling, who had been farming at Marcus's exact pace for two weeks, found himself farming a lane that kept arriving pre-killed. He moved to the jungle. The jungle had been warded. He moved to the offlane. Kaelen was already there, bleeding for space, and there was no space left to bleed for.

"I'm at thirty-two last hits at ten," Lucas said. His tapping fingers had gone still. That was worse than the tapping.

"Stay in it," Kies said. "We don't win the first twenty. We survive them."

"Survive is a plan now?"

"Survive is the plan."

Fnatic took the top tier-one at eleven. They took the mid tier-one at fourteen. They took Roshan at seventeen, uncontested, because PRIME's wards had been dewarded twice and OldMan was buying sentries out of his own pocket money and running out. At twenty-two minutes the scoreboard read two kills to ten. PRIME's net worth was twelve thousand behind. The map was a shrinking circle of green, and every green pixel outside the base was a place a Fnatic hero was standing.

"They're going to push high ground," OldMan said. "They've got the aegis. They've got the Sven. They're going to walk up the middle and end it, and they're going to do it in the next four minutes."

"Then we let them," Kies said.

"Kies—"

"We let them walk up. We don't contest the tier-three until the Sven commits. When the Sven commits, Kaelen, you blink on the supports, not the Sven. Ren, you're on the TA. I'm on the backline. OldMan—"

"I'm on you," OldMan said. "I'm always on you."

The Fnatic wave arrived at the tier-three tower at 31:40. Ohaiyo's Dark Seer shelled the creeps. DJ's Kunkka stood at the back with his X marked on the ground, ready to pull a hero out of the fight the moment it went wrong. QO's Templar Assassin melded into the creep wave, invisible, waiting for a target.

Kies stepped forward to bait him.

He knew it was a bait. QO knew it was a bait. That was the point. He took it anyway, because a Templar Assassin with a Meld and a Desolator and a twenty-two-minute aegis does not decline a free kill on the enemy midlaner. He broke Meld, hit him with the Psi Blades, and the damage landed like a truck. Kies's health bar dropped to one in under a second.

And then it did not.

OldMan's Oracle had been standing behind him the entire time, and the False Promise landed at the exact frame Kies's health hit the floor. The golden light wrapped around him. For eight seconds, Kies was not dead. He was not alive either. He was a held breath in the shape of a man, and every point of damage he took was being deferred, banked, waiting to be paid back at the end of the window with double healing if he could survive it.

"Go," OldMan said. "Go go go."

Kies went. He had four hundred and forty mana, he spent it in a single zip that carried him from the front of the fight to the back of it, past the Sven, past the Dark Seer, past the Kunkka, and landed him directly on top of Fnatic's Shadow Demon, who had been standing behind everyone, casting Soul Catcher on the front line and feeling safe.

He was not safe. Kies hit him with a Static Remnant, an Overload, and a Remnant again, and the Shadow Demon died before he could cast a second spell. Kies zipped again — eighty mana left, enough for one more — and landed on the Kunkka, who was mid-cast on a Ghostship that would have saved the whole fight if it had finished. It did not finish. Kies killed him too, and the Ghostship never arrived.

Kaelen's Mars blinked into the middle of the fight and dropped the Arena of Blood around the Sven and the Dark Seer, caging them against the wall of spears. Lucas's Morphling waveformed in and started hitting the Sven with everything he had. The Sven, who had been farming for thirty minutes, who had been the whole point of Fnatic's draft, died in four seconds inside a ring of spears with nowhere to run.

QO's Templar Assassin, the only Fnatic hero still alive, tried to run. Ren's Earth Spirit rolled after him, kicked her back into the arena, and Kies finished him with a final zip that left him at twelve mana and one hundred and forty health.

Four Fnatic heroes dead. One PRIME hero dead — Kaelen, who had traded his life for the arena placement and did not seem to mind. The tier-three tower held. The base held. The game, which had been over four minutes ago, was not over.

"Buybacks," OldMan said. "They've all got buybacks. They're coming back."

"Let them," Kies said. "Every buyback is a fight they can't take twice."

They came back. Fnatic bought back four heroes and pushed again at thirty-four minutes, and PRIME held again, and the game became a war of attrition that neither team could afford to lose. Fnatic split-pushed with Ohaiyo's Dark Seer, who could push a lane from three screens away and never be caught. PRIME answered with Lucas's Morphling, who had finally found his farm in the chaos and was now hitting the Sven for real damage in every fight. The gold lead shrank. Twelve thousand became nine. Nine became six. Six became three.

At forty-five minutes, Fnatic took Roshan again. At forty-eight, they pushed the bottom tier-three and PRIME held. At fifty, they pushed the top tier-three and PRIME held. The game was a grinder now, a slow, brutal exchange of cooldowns and buybacks and wards, and both teams were running out of everything.

"I'm out of buyback," Lucas said. "I bought back at forty-two."

"So did their Sven," OldMan said. "I've been counting. Their Sven is out. Their TA is out. The Kunkka has one left."

"Then we fight where the Kunkka can't X out," Kies said. "Roshan pit. Fifty-two minutes. Kaelen, you're the play."

"I know," Kaelen said. He had been quiet for ten minutes, which was how Kaelen got before he did something loud. "Give me the trees."

At 52:10, PRIME walked toward the Roshan pit. Fnatic walked toward them. Both teams knew what was coming. There was no more macro left to play, no more split-push, no more vision games. It was five heroes against five heroes in an open pit, and whoever lost was going to lose the game.

Kaelen's Mars stood in the trees north of the pit, invisible, waiting. Fnatic's five heroes stacked into the pit entrance in a tight cluster — Sven in front, TA behind, Kunkka and Shadow Demon at the back, Dark Seer on the flank. It was a good formation. It was the formation they had used to win every fight for fifty minutes.

Kaelen blinked.

The Arena of Blood came down around all five of them. Not four. Not three. Five. The spears rose in a perfect ring, and every Fnatic hero was inside it, and the wall of blood was between them and the rest of the map. There was nowhere to run. There was nowhere to X out to. There was just the arena and the five PRIME heroes standing outside it, looking in.

"Now," Kaelen said.

Lucas's Morphling waveformed into the arena and started hitting the Sven. Kies zipped in behind him, Static Remnant, Overload, Remnant again, and the Shadow Demon died first, then the Kunkka, then the Dark Seer, and the Sven was trying to hit Lucas but Lucas had shifted his stats to full agility and was killing him faster than the Sven could kill back. QO's Templar Assassin melded and tried to run and there was nowhere to run to, because the arena was a cage and the cage was made of Kaelen's blood.

The Sven died. The TA died. All five Fnatic heroes were dead, and none of them had buyback, and the map was open.

"Mid," Kies said. "Mid mid mid."

PRIME walked down the middle lane with the creep wave. The tier-four towers fell. The barracks fell. Fnatic's ancient was exposed, and there was no one alive to defend it, and the five PRIME heroes stood in front of it and hit it until the health bar emptied.

The ancient exploded at 54:12.

For a second, nobody in the room said anything. The victory screen loaded. The webcam lights stayed green. Lucas's fingers had stopped tapping entirely, and he was staring at the screen like he was not sure it was real. Kaelen leaned back in his chair and let out a breath that had been held for fifty-four minutes. Ren closed his eyes and opened them. OldMan took his hands off the keyboard and set them flat on the desk.

"One," Kies said. His voice was hoarse. He had not realized he had been yelling. "One game. One more."

The referee mic clicked on. A neutral voice told them to remain in their seats, that game two would begin in eight minutes, that the draft would reset. Kies pulled his cap off and wiped his forehead with the back of his wrist and put the cap back on, and his hands were shaking, just a little, the way they always did after a game that had gone to the edge.

Upstairs, through the floorboards, he could hear nothing. Marcus and Chloe were watching on the delay, and the delay was still catching up to the moment the ancient fell, and somewhere above him the two of them were seeing it for the first time, the way the rest of the world was seeing it, and Kies found that he wanted very badly to know what Chloe's face looked like right now.

"Eight minutes," OldMan said. "Fnatic's going to come out of this angry."

"Good," Kies said. He opened his notebook and wrote one line under the Fnatic page. They can be caged. Then he closed it and set his hands back on the keyboard and waited for the countdown to start again.
