Chapter 19

Jeff was about to have breakfast with Bella the next day. But he was busy with a morning blowjob with his two last night flings. Meanwhile, the phone rang. It was Bella; Jeff was hesitant at first, then he picked it up. He promised Bella he would come within half an hour. After the call Lena told him that it wouldn't take half an hour but longer. She asked him to bang them anally. Jeff refused first, but when he sniffed their asses, he couldn't control himself. He banged them brutally and came inside their mouths afterwards. Then he took a bath and went to Bella's place. Then they went to her favorite restaurant for breakfast. Bella was talking about lots of things, but Jeff was nonchalant. Then he stopped her and told her that he wanted to tell her something. Bella got confused but tried to guess what he was about to say.

Jeff drummed his fingers on the white tablecloth, the rhythm restless and uneven. The restaurant was half-empty at this hour—polished mahogany and low gold light, the scent of seared butter and aged leather hanging in the warm air. Crystal clinked against linen somewhere behind him. A fork scraped a plate. The cool weight of the water glass in his hand felt like the only solid thing in the room.

He hadn't touched the bread basket. The butter had softened into a pale yellow pool on the saucer, and he stared at it without seeing it, his thumb tracing the rim of the glass in a slow, unconscious circle.

The morning sat in his bones like a bruise he couldn't stop pressing.

Lena's mouth, hot and wet, taking him deep before he was even fully awake. Dani's hand wrapped around the base of his cock, guiding her sister's rhythm. The silk sheets twisted beneath them, the smell of sex and perfume thick in the air of his bedroom. The phone had buzzed on the nightstand, Bella's name lighting up the screen, and he'd frozen—his cock still in Lena's mouth, Dani's fingers stroking his balls—and for one long, suspended second, he'd thought about not answering.

But he had. He'd promised her half an hour.

Jeff let out a breath and set the glass down, his fingers finding the stem of it instead, turning it in a slow quarter-rotation. The ice had melted, diluting the water. He hadn't noticed when.

His phone lay face-up on the table beside the bread basket. Three messages from Lena, the last one reading: you owe us another round. That wasn't enough. He'd read it twice, then left it on read. He'd texted Bella: on my way, babe. Can't wait to see you. The lie had come easy. It always did.

But the half hour hadn't been half an hour.

He remembered the way Lena had looked at him after he hung up, her dark eyes knowing, her mouth still slick. "It won't take half an hour," she'd said, and her hand had slid down his chest, over his stomach, finding him already half-hard again. "It'll take longer. We want you to bang us anally."

And Dani, behind her, already turning over on the bed, her ass in the air, her fingers spreading herself open—

Jeff had said no. He'd said it twice. But then Lena had turned too, presenting herself beside her sister, and the smell of them—the musk of their cunts, the faint salt of sweat, the sweet perfume they'd both sprayed on their necks—had hit him like a wave, and he'd leaned down without thinking, his face between Lena's cheeks, his tongue finding her asshole, tasting her, and the hunger had swallowed him whole.

He'd fucked them both. Hard. Brutal. The way they'd wanted it. He'd come in Lena's mouth while Dani watched, her fingers buried inside herself, and then he'd gotten up, showered, dressed, and walked out the door like a man who hadn't just broken every promise he'd made.

The wedding band of a woman at the next table caught the light as she lifted her wine glass. Thin gold, simple. The gesture reminded him of nothing, and everything, and he looked away.

Jeff checked the time on his phone again. Ten minutes early. He'd driven like a maniac to make it, the guilt a hot coil in his chest, and now he was sitting alone in a room that smelled like butter and leather, trying to remember how to smile like he hadn't just spent the morning with his face buried between two assholes.

He'd showered twice. He could still smell them.

The waiter appeared at his elbow—polished black shoes, a white apron crisp and immaculate. "Can I start you with something while you wait, sir? A coffee, perhaps?"

Jeff nodded, grateful for the interruption. "Coffee. Black. And keep the water coming."

He watched the waiter retreat, noting the efficient economy of his movements, the way he seemed to glide between tables without disturbing anyone. Jeff had been in this restaurant a dozen times before, but he'd never noticed the waiter before. He'd never noticed the way the candlelight caught the grain of the mahogany, either, or the way the gold fixtures had been polished until they gleamed like new money.

He was stalling. He knew he was stalling. He was sitting here in this beautiful room, staring at everything except the thing he was supposed to do, which was figure out what he was going to say to the woman who was about to walk through that door.

The coffee arrived in a white ceramic cup, steam curling off the surface. Jeff wrapped his hands around it, the heat grounding him. He didn't drink. He just held it, letting the warmth seep into his palms, his knuckles still tight from where he'd gripped Lena's hips.

He thought about Bella. The way she'd looked at him when she found the panties. The way her voice had cracked when she said you promised. The way she'd stayed anyway, claiming him as hers, swearing him to a new rule. No other women in this bed.

She'd meant it. He knew she'd meant it. And he'd broken it before her sheets were even cold.

Jeff's jaw tightened. He set the coffee down, untouched, and pulled out his phone again. No new messages from Lena, thank Christ. He scrolled past her thread, past the unread messages from a model named Gianna he'd met at a shoot last week, past the spam and the notifications, and stopped on Bella's name. The last text he'd sent her was a heart emoji and the words 5 min out, babe. She'd replied with a smiley face and a kiss emoji.

He stared at the screen until it dimmed, then locked the phone and set it face-down on the tablecloth.

The ache in his lower back was faint but persistent, a reminder of the morning's exertion—the angle of those half-hour thrusts, the way Dani had pushed back against him, the way Lena had screamed when he'd come in her mouth. He shifted in his seat, rolling his shoulders, trying to work out the knot between his shoulder blades.

He could feel the restaurant around him now, the low murmur of conversation, the clink of silver, the soft jazz playing from hidden speakers. A couple at a corner table laughed at something, the woman's hand reaching across to touch the man's wrist. He watched them for a moment, the casual intimacy of the gesture, the way her fingers rested in the crook of his elbow like she belonged there. Like she trusted him.

Jeff looked away.

His thumb found the edge of the bread basket, picked at a loose crumb. He remembered Bella's mouth on his, the night after the beach, the way she'd whispered his name like it meant something. He remembered the weight of her asleep on his chest, the way her breath had evened out, the way he'd lain there with his eyes open, staring at the ceiling, willing himself to feel something other than the restless hunger that never fucking stopped.

He remembered Christian's voice on the phone last night. Sofia knows. She's here. And he remembered the way he'd felt, hearing it—not sympathy, not concern, but a strange, hollow relief that he wasn't the only one. That Christian had fucked up too. That they were both drowning in the same water.

Except Christian had stopped running. Christian had found something real, and then he'd thrown it away, but at least he'd found it. Jeff had found Bella, had held her in his arms, had promised her something, and then he'd fucked two women in the bed where she slept, and he didn't know how to stop. He didn't know if he could stop.

He didn't know if he wanted to stop.

The thought landed in his chest like a stone, and he let it sit there.

The coffee was cooling. The water had lost its chill. The bread basket sat untouched, the butter congealing in its saucer. Jeff stared at the door of the restaurant, the brass handle gleaming, and waited for the woman he was about to break to walk through it.

He thought about telling her the truth. All of it. The two women, the anal, the way he'd come in Lena's mouth while Dani watched. He thought about saying the words out loud, watching her face change, watching the trust drain out of her eyes the way it had when she found the panties. He thought about the look she'd given him then, the way she'd said this is the last chance, Jeff, and the way he'd promised, and the way he'd meant it at the time, and the way it hadn't mattered.

His fingers found his coffee cup again, lifted it, set it down without drinking. The motion repeated itself in his head: lift, set, lift, set. A man stalling for time he didn't deserve.

The restaurant door swung open.

Jeff's eyes snapped to it, his body tensing before his mind caught up. But it wasn't Bella—just a man in a grey suit, his phone pressed to his ear, stepping inside and heading toward the bar. Jeff's shoulders dropped, and he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.

He checked his phone again. She wasn't late. He was early. She was probably parking, or walking over, or standing in front of a mirror somewhere, checking her lipstick, smoothing her hair, getting ready to meet the man she thought she could trust.

Jeff closed his eyes. He saw Lena's asshole, pink and wet, waiting for his tongue. He saw Dani's mouth open, waiting for his cum. He saw the hotel room in Fort Lauderdale, Maya's legs wrapped around him, the cheap sheets, the way he'd told himself it didn't count because she didn't matter.

He saw Bella's face when she'd found the panties. The hurt. The rage. The way she'd stayed anyway.

The door swung open again.

The afternoon light cut across the polished floor in a long, golden stripe. And there she was.

Bella stepped inside, a white sundress catching the light, her hair loose around her shoulders, her lips curved in a smile that hadn't yet learned to doubt him. She scanned the room, her eyes moving past the bar, past the corner tables, and then they found his.

She smiled. A real smile. The kind that came from somewhere soft.

Jeff pushed back his chair and stood, the napkin sliding from his lap and landing on the floor. He didn't notice. His face was already doing the work—a practiced, easy smile, the kind he'd perfected over twenty years of charm and lies. His hand lifted in a small wave, and he called her name, and she started walking toward him, her sundress swaying, the gold light catching her hair, and he stood there like a man who had not, two hours ago, come in another woman's mouth while her sister watched.

He watched her cross the room. The way her shoulders relaxed when she saw him. The way her steps quickened, just a little, eager. She was happy to see him. She was happy.

The space between them shrank. He could smell her perfume now, light and floral, the same one she'd worn on the beach. He could see the tiny freckle above her lip, the one he'd kissed a hundred times. He could see the trust in her eyes, still whole, still unbroken, and he had not yet decided what he would say to her, but he knew, with a certainty that sat cold in his gut, that whatever came out of his mouth would not be the whole truth.

Bella reached the table. Her smile widened. "Hey, you."

Jeff reached for her, his hand finding her waist, his lips brushing her cheek. "Hey."

She leaned into him for a moment, her hand resting on his chest, and he felt the warmth of her palm through the fabric of his shirt. She looked up at him, her eyes bright, her smile easy, and said, "I've been thinking about this all morning."
