She pushed through the door of The Copper Kettle and the string lights caught the dress, turning it from purple to green to smoke as she moved, and for one stupid second she felt like she was walking through a scene from the game, like the whole patio had been lit just for her entrance. Then the moment passed and she was just a woman in a borrowed dress with her heart hammering against her ribs, scanning the tables, and there was Dani.
Dani was already standing at a table near the back, half-empty glass in hand, and the smile on her face said she'd been watching Aria walk this whole time. Not glancing up at the last second like someone pretending they hadn't been looking. Watching. The kind of watching that made Aria's ears heat under the pointed tips that she'd left bare on purpose, that she'd left bare because Dani had asked her to.
She crossed the patio and the string lights caught her hair and she felt every eye on her, or maybe none, maybe it was just Dani's eyes, and she couldn't tell the difference anymore. The dress moved with her, the smoky purple fabric sliding over her hips in a way that felt deliberate even though she hadn't asked it to. Her stupid elven blood made everything a performance whether she wanted it or not.
"You wore the ears," Dani said as Aria reached the table, and it wasn't a question. It was a thank you.
Aria felt the heat come up her neck and she hated that she could feel it, that her skin was pale enough to show every flush like a goddamn neon sign. "You said to."
"I know." Dani's smile widened, and there was something soft in it, something that didn't match the devilish curve of her mouth. "I just didn't think you would."
"I do what I'm told." Aria said it before she could stop herself, and then she felt her whole face go hot, and Dani laughed — a real laugh, low and warm — and pulled out the chair across from her.
"Sit down before you float away."
Aria sat. The chair was warm from the sun-baked bricks and the patio was a cave of string light glow, and the scents of spilled beer and damp earth and something cooking from the kitchen wrapped around her, and she realized she hadn't eaten since the grilled cheese at Sera's and that was hours and hours ago and she'd been too nervous to think about food. Now her stomach chose that exact moment to make a sound loud enough to hear.
Dani's eyebrows went up. "Hungry?"
"I forgot to eat." It came out smaller than she meant it to.
"Forgot." Dani shook her head slowly, still smiling. "I forget to text people back. I don't forget to eat. What are you, a fairy?"
Aria's hand went to her ear before she could stop it, and she made herself drop it. "Something like that."
Dani didn't push. She just picked up her glass and took a sip and watched Aria over the rim, and Aria watched her back. The shoulder-length brown hair, the soft curve of her jaw, the rosebud mouth that had promised more and then delivered, in a parked car on a dark road, the first time anyone had touched this body at all. Aria remembered the way that mouth had felt against hers. She remembered a lot of things.
"You're staring," Dani said, not unkindly.
"You're worth staring at."
It came out honest, and Dani's cheeks went pink, and Aria felt a small fierce thrill at being the one who could do that. At being someone who could make a woman like this blush.
"Okay," Dani said, recovering, and set her glass down. "Okay, so we're doing that tonight. Compliments and eye contact and —" she gestured at the whole of Aria, at the dress and the hair and the ears, "— all of this. We're doing all of this."
"Is that a problem?"
"No." Dani's voice went softer. "It's not a problem. It's just — you're a lot, you know that?"
Aria didn't know how to answer that. She'd been a guy named Jason four days ago, a guy who played tabletop games over video chat and worked a job he didn't love and had never once been called a lot by a beautiful woman. Now she was this — silver hair and violet eyes and ears that could hear the ice shift in Dani's glass — and she was still figuring out what it meant to be looked at like that.
"I'm working on it," she said finally.
Dani laughed again, and it was easier this time, and a server appeared at the table — a young woman with a nose ring and a patient smile — and Dani ordered without looking at the menu, and Aria looked at the menu and saw nothing and ordered the first thing her eyes landed on, which turned out to be a burger.
"A burger," Dani said when the server left. "Interesting choice for a fairy princess."
"I haven't eaten all day."
"Fair." Dani leaned back in her chair, and the string lights caught her face, and she looked at Aria with something that was almost wonder. "So. You work at a laundromat now."
"How did you know that?"
"You texted me about it. 'I got a job' — remember? I assumed it was the laundromat because that's where you were yesterday."
Right. The text. Aria had sent it from Mike's phone, standing in the living room while Mike pretended not to watch her type, and she'd said I got a job and nothing else, and Dani had replied with a string of celebratory emojis and a tell me everything tonight.
"It's a good job," Aria said. "I mend things."
"Mend things."
"Like — I'm good at fixing things. Broken stuff. I have a gift."
Dani tilted her head, and Aria could feel her trying to figure out if that was a joke, and Aria didn't know how to explain that she actually did have a gift, that she could touch a cracked mug and watch it become whole, that she had made a windshield whole again with her bare hand and a cantrip and the stubborn belief that reality would bend if she wanted it hard enough.
"That's cool," Dani said. "I'm not good at fixing anything. I burn toast."
"I can fix that too."
"You can fix burnt toast?"
"I can fix a lot of things."
Dani's smile flickered, and there was something in her eyes that Aria couldn't quite name, something that looked almost like hope, and then it was gone, smoothed over by the easy confidence that Dani wore like a coat. "Careful. A girl could get used to that."
The server came back with their drinks — a beer for Dani, water for Aria because she still didn't know what alcohol did to an elf and she wasn't about to find out in public — and then the food came, and Aria ate like she hadn't eaten in a week, which was nearly true, and Dani watched her with an amused expression that made Aria feel both seen and ridiculous.
"You weren't kidding about being hungry."
"I told you." Aria wiped her mouth with a napkin, feeling her cheeks flush. "I forgot."
"I believe you now. You want my fries?"
"Yes."
Dani pushed her basket across the table, and Aria took a fry and ate it, and the salt hit her tongue and she made a small sound without meaning to, and Dani's eyes went dark and warm at the sound and Aria felt the air between them shift.
"That's a dangerous noise," Dani said, quiet.
Aria swallowed. "What noise?"
"The one you just made. Eating a fry."
"I was hungry."
"I know." Dani's voice was still quiet, still warm. "I'm just saying. If you make noises like that over a potato, I'm going to have a hard time keeping my hands to myself for the rest of the night."
Aria's whole body went hot. She could feel it, the flush spreading down her neck, and she was suddenly very aware of the dress, of the swooping neckline, of the way the fabric hung off one shoulder and left her collarbone bare. She was aware of her own breasts, heavy and round, pressing against the soft fabric, and she was aware that Dani had looked at them — had looked at her — and hadn't flinched.
"Who says you have to keep your hands to yourself?" Aria said, and her voice came out steadier than she felt.
Dani's eyebrows went up. "That's bold."
"I'm trying something new."
"I like it." Dani picked up her beer and took a long sip, and when she set it down there was a smile playing at the corner of her mouth. "I like it a lot. But —" she leaned forward, elbows on the table, and her voice dropped, "— we're in public. And I'm a lady. So maybe we finish dinner first."
Aria's mouth went dry. "And after dinner?"
"After dinner," Dani said, "we'll see how bold you really are."
The rest of the meal passed in a blur of small talk and stolen glances and the occasional brush of Dani's foot against Aria's ankle under the table. Aria learned that Dani worked at a flower shop — "I know, it's very lesbian of me" — and that she had a cat named Pancake, and that she'd been in Blue Castle for three years and still hadn't found a decent Thai place. Dani learned that Aria was from out of town, staying with her brother, and that she'd never had a job before this one, which Dani accepted with a curious look and no follow-up questions.
"You're a mystery," Dani said as the server cleared their plates. "You know that?"
"I'm not trying to be."
"I know. That's what makes it interesting." Dani reached across the table and took Aria's hand, and Aria felt the warmth of it, the softness, and her heart did something complicated in her chest. "You want to get out of here?"
Yes. The word was on her lips, ready to fall out, and then Aria remembered the thing she'd been trying not to think about all night, the thing that had been sitting in the back of her mind like a stone. She had twenty spell points left. She had a secret that could get her locked in a government lab. She had a brother who was probably pacing the apartment right now, waiting for her to come home. And she had a body that had never been touched by anyone but Dani, and she wanted — God, she wanted — but she didn't know what she was allowed to want.
"Where would we go?" she asked, and her voice came out smaller than she meant it to.
Dani's thumb traced a slow circle on the back of Aria's hand. "My place. It's not far. We can — talk. Or not talk. Whatever you want."
Aria looked at Dani's hand on hers, at the way it fit, at the warmth of it. She thought about the parked car, the way Dani had kissed her, the way Dani's hands had found their way under her clothes and made her feel things she'd never felt before, not like this, not in this body that was still so new and strange and hers.
"Okay," she said. "Okay."
Dani smiled, and it was soft, softer than Aria had seen her smile all night, and she stood up and pulled Aria gently to her feet. The string lights caught the dress again as Aria stood, turning it from purple to green to smoke, and Dani looked at her and didn't look away.
"You're beautiful," Dani said, simply, like it was a fact she'd known for a while and was only now saying out loud.
Aria didn't know how to answer that, so she didn't. She just let Dani lead her out of the patio, out of the warm cave of string light glow, and into the cool evening air of Blue Castle.
The street was quiet. The sky was dark now, a deep blue going black at the edges, and the streetlights cast pools of orange light on the sidewalk. Dani's hand found Aria's again as they walked, and Aria let herself be held, let herself be led, let herself feel the simple miracle of walking down a street holding a woman's hand in her own body with her own name and her own pointed ears and no one staring, no one running, no one screaming.
"You're quiet," Dani said.
"I'm thinking."
"About?"
Aria looked at her. The streetlight caught Dani's face, the soft curve of her jaw, the dark eyes that were watching her with something patient and warm. "About how weird this is."
"Weird how?"
"Weird that I'm here. Weird that you're here. Weird that I met you at a bar and now I'm walking to your place and I don't even know your last name."
Dani laughed. "It's Hope. Danielle Hope."
"Danielle Hope." Aria tried it on her tongue. It tasted like something sweet. "That's a nice name."
"Thanks. I picked it myself."
Aria stopped walking. Dani stopped too, turning to face her, and the streetlight caught the question in her eyes.
"Picked it?" Aria said.
Dani's smile flickered, and for a second Aria saw something else there — something careful, something guarded — and then it was gone, smoothed over by that easy confidence. "I changed it when I was eighteen. My birth name never fit. So I picked a new one."
Aria stood very still. She thought about her own name, about Aria Silverleaf, about the moment she'd written it on the receipt at the laundromat and felt something settle in her chest like a key turning in a lock. She thought about Jason, about the name she'd carried for twenty-four years, about how it felt like a coat that didn't fit anymore.
"I get that," she said.
Dani looked at her, and something in her eyes shifted, softened. "Yeah?"
"Yeah." Aria's voice was quiet. "I picked mine too."
They stood there on the sidewalk, two women holding hands in the orange pool of streetlight, and Aria felt something pass between them — a recognition, a shared understanding that didn't need words. She didn't know exactly what Dani was telling her, not yet, but she knew what it felt like to be seen.
"Come on," Dani said, and her voice was softer than before. "My place is just up here."
Dani's apartment was small and warm and smelled like cinnamon and something floral. There was a cat — Pancake, a fat orange tabby — asleep on the back of the couch, and there were books stacked on every flat surface, and there was a guitar leaning against the wall in the corner that Aria hadn't expected.
"You play?" she asked, nodding at it.
"Badly." Dani kicked off her shoes and tossed her keys on a side table. "But I'm enthusiastic."
Aria laughed, and it came out easy, and she realized she hadn't laughed like that in — she didn't know how long. Maybe never, in this body. Maybe not since she'd become Aria at all.
"You want something to drink?" Dani asked, already moving toward the kitchen. "I have water, iced tea, some wine that's probably still good —"
"Water's fine."
Dani disappeared into the kitchen and Aria stood in the living room, looking around, trying to take in the shape of this woman's life. The books — mostly fantasy, some romance, a few with cracked spines and dog-eared pages. A framed photo on the shelf of Dani with a group of friends, all of them laughing, Dani's hair shorter in the photo and her smile just as bright. A small glass jar on the coffee table full of what looked like dried flowers.
"That's from my mom's garden," Dani said, coming back with two glasses of water. She handed one to Aria and nodded at the jar. "She passed a few years ago. I keep it around."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. She was — she was good. She would have liked you."
Aria didn't know what to say to that, so she took a sip of water and let the coolness settle in her chest. Dani sat down on the couch, and after a moment Aria sat down beside her, close enough to feel the warmth of her, not quite touching.
"So," Dani said, and her voice was careful now, softer. "You said you picked your name too."
Aria nodded. "Aria. It's — it's who I've always been, I think. I just didn't know it yet."
Dani was quiet for a moment, and then she reached out and took Aria's hand again, and Aria let her, let their fingers lace together in the warm quiet of the apartment.
"I'm trans," Dani said, and her voice was steady, even, like she'd said this a hundred times before and it still cost her something every time. "I was born — I'm a trans woman. I've been on hormones for six years. I haven't had surgery, and I don't plan to. I like my body the way it is."
Aria felt the words land in her chest. She didn't know what she'd expected — maybe nothing, maybe she hadn't thought about it at all — but she knew what it cost Dani to say it, knew it from the careful steadiness of her voice, from the way her thumb was tracing slow circles on Aria's hand like she needed the anchor.
Thank you for telling me, Aria said, and the words came out before her mind had fully caught up. Because for a heartbeat — just one, quick and shameful — something else had flickered through her: Dani was too beautiful, too soft, too perfectly curved to be trans. The thought arrived unbidden, a reflex from a world that had taught her certain shapes meant certain things, and she hated it even as it passed. But then she looked at Dani's face, at the careful steadiness in her eyes, at the way her thumb was still tracing those slow circles on Aria's hand like she needed the anchor, and the reflex died. Hope took its place, warm and unexpected. If Dani was trans, then maybe — maybe that was close enough. Maybe if things went well, she could get some spell points back without having to explain anything, without the awkwardness she'd been dreading. And Dani was truly pretty enough that Aria didn't give a shit. She was beautiful, full stop, and Aria was probably going to have to learn to love cocks eventually anyway. Better to learn with someone who looked at her like this.
Dani's eyes searched her face. "Is that — is that okay?"
"Why wouldn't it be?"
"Because some people —" Dani started, and then stopped, and Aria saw the flicker of something old and tired in her eyes. "Some people don't want what I am."
Aria squeezed her hand. "I'm not some people."
Dani let out a breath, and it was shaky, and she leaned in and kissed Aria, soft and slow, and Aria felt the warmth of it spread through her like a slow tide. Dani's lips were soft, and her hand came up to cup Aria's jaw, and Aria made a small sound against her mouth that she couldn't have stopped if she'd tried.
"That noise," Dani whispered against her lips. "I told you about that noise."
"I can't help it."
"I know." Dani kissed her again, deeper this time, and her hand slid from Aria's jaw down to her shoulder, to the bare skin where the dress hung off, and Aria shivered. "You're going to be the death of me."
"Is that a complaint?"
"Not even close."
Aria kissed her back, and she let herself fall into it, let herself feel the strange and wonderful reality of this — a woman's mouth on hers, a woman's hand on her skin, a woman's body warm beside her on a couch in a small apartment in a town that had never seen anything like her. She thought about the game, about the character sheet, about the line that said Succubic Restoration and the note in Sera's handwriting that said No cheesing it. She thought about spell points and magic and the weight of being the only elf on a planet that didn't know elves existed.
And then she stopped thinking, because Dani's hand had found the hem of her dress, and Dani's mouth had found her neck, and the world had narrowed to this: the warm skin, the soft lips, the quiet sound of Dani's breath in her ear.
"Aria," Dani said, and her voice was rough now, and Aria felt her own name like a touch. "I want to touch you. Is that okay?"
Aria's heart was pounding. She could feel it in her throat, in her chest, in the place between her legs that had been aching since the parked car, since before the parked car, since the moment she'd first looked at Dani across a crowded bar and thought I want. But the wanting tangled with something else now — a memory of the car, of Dani's hands moving under her clothes while she'd lain there, overwhelmed, taking and taking and never once giving back. She didn't want that again. She wanted to be touched, yes, but she wanted to touch too.
"Yes," she said. "Yes. But —" She pulled back just enough to meet Dani's eyes, her voice steadier than she felt. "I want to touch you too. This time. Promise me I can."
Dani's hand paused on her thigh, and for a moment the only sound was the rain and the cat's soft breathing. Then Dani smiled, slow and warm, something like wonder in her eyes. "I promise," she said. "Anything you want. I'm yours."
Aria let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding, and the tension in her shoulders eased. Dani's hand slid up her thigh, slow, deliberate, and Aria's breath caught. The dress had ridden up, and Dani's fingers were on her skin, warm and sure, and Aria felt herself tremble — but this time the trembling was different. This time she knew she'd get to give back.
"I'm nervous."
"Don't be." Dani's mouth found hers again, soft and reassuring. "We can stop anytime. Just say the word."
"I don't want to stop."
"Good." Dani's hand moved higher, and Aria's breath hitched, and she felt the heat pooling low in her belly, felt the wetness between her legs that she'd been trying not to think about all night. "Because I've been thinking about this since the car."
"Me too."
Dani's fingers found the edge of her underwear, and Aria gasped, and Dani kissed the sound away, and then her fingers were sliding underneath, and Aria's whole body went tight.
"God, you're wet," Dani breathed, and Aria felt her face go hot, felt the shame and the want tangled up together in her chest. "That's so hot."
Aria couldn't speak. Dani's fingers were moving now, slow and gentle, finding the rhythm of her body, and Aria's head fell back against the couch and her mouth fell open and she felt herself coming apart, piece by piece, under this woman's hands.
"Look at me," Dani said, and Aria forced her eyes open, forced herself to meet Dani's dark gaze. "I want to see you."
Aria's breath was ragged. "I —"
"You're beautiful," Dani said. "You're so beautiful. And you're mine tonight. Do you understand?"
Aria's whole body shuddered. "Yes."
"Good girl."
The words hit her like a spark to dry grass, and Aria felt herself clench around Dani's fingers, felt the orgasm building, rising like a tide she couldn't stop. Dani's thumb found her clit and pressed, and Aria cried out, and Dani's mouth found hers and swallowed the sound.
"Come for me," Dani whispered. "Come for me, Aria."
And Aria did.
It crashed over her like a wave, like something she'd never felt before, and she shook and trembled and clung to Dani's shoulders, and Dani held her through it, murmuring soft things against her skin, and when it finally ebbed Aria was left breathless and trembling and utterly, completely hers.
"Okay?" Dani asked, stroking her hair.
"Yeah." Aria's voice was hoarse. "Yeah. That was — that was —"
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
They lay there for a while, tangled together on the couch, Pancake the cat watching them with sleepy orange eyes. Aria could feel her own heartbeat slowing, could feel the aftershocks still trembling through her body, and she thought about what had just happened, about how easy it had been, about how much she'd wanted it and how little she'd had to explain.
"Dani," she said, and her voice was quiet.
"Mm?"
"I have to tell you something."
Dani's hand stilled on her back. "Okay."
Aria opened her mouth. Closed it. The words were there, lined up behind her teeth like soldiers waiting for a command, and she couldn't give the order. She looked at Dani's face — open, patient, waiting — and she thought about how easy it would be to say nothing, to let the moment pass, to keep the secret tucked inside her like a stone she'd swallowed years ago.
But she was done carrying stones.
"I'm not from Vermont," she said.
Dani blinked. "Okay."
"I'm not from anywhere. Not — not the way you mean." Aria sat up, and the dress slid back into place, and she pulled her knees up onto the couch and wrapped her arms around them. She felt small. She felt enormous. She felt like she was standing on the edge of a cliff and the wind was pushing at her back. "I told you I was Jason's cousin. I'm not. I'm not related to him at all. I'm not even —" She laughed, a short bitter sound. "I'm not even human."
Dani didn't move. Her hand was still on Aria's back, warm and steady. "Okay," she said again, and her voice was softer this time, like she was talking to something wild.
"I'm an elf." Aria said it flat, the way you'd tell someone you had a terminal illness. "A real one. I know how that sounds. I know it sounds insane. But —" She reached up and touched her ear, the pointed tip of it, and she made herself hold Dani's gaze. "You asked me to wear the ears. You said you knew they were real."
"I did."
"And you — you believed me. When I said it."
"I did."
"Why?"
Dani was quiet for a moment. Then she said, "Because you looked at me like you were terrified I was going to run. And I've had that look before. I've given that look before. And it's never about — it's never about the thing you're afraid to say. It's about the saying it."
Aria felt her eyes sting. She blinked hard and looked away, at the books on the shelf, at the jar of dried flowers, at Pancake the cat who was now watching her with one sleepy orange eye. "I woke up in the woods four days ago," she said. "I was a man. I was — I was Jason. I played a game, and I woke up as my character, and I don't know why, and I don't know how, and I don't know if I can go back."
She turned back to Dani. "I don't want to go back."
Dani's hand moved on her back, a slow stroke from shoulder blade to waist, and the touch was so gentle it almost undid her. "Okay," Dani said. Not that's crazy, not you need help, not any of the things Aria had braced for. Just: "Okay."
Aria waited for the rest. For the question, the doubt, the careful retreat that people did when you told them something too big for a Thursday night. Dani just looked at her, and the string lights from the patio had followed them somehow, or maybe it was just the lamp beside the couch, soft and golden, catching the brown of Dani's eyes and the patient set of her mouth.
"That's it?" Aria's voice cracked. "That's all you have to say?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"I don't know. Something. Anything. Tell me I'm crazy. Tell me to leave. Tell me —" She was rambling and she knew it, the words spilling out of her like water from a cracked cup, and she couldn't stop, couldn't find the brake. "You just watched me tell you I used to be a man named Jason who played a game and woke up as an elf, and you said okay, and I don't know what to do with that."
Dani's hand stilled on her back. "Do you want me to run?"
"No." The word came out fast, desperate, and Aria hated the sound of it. "No, I don't — I just —" She pressed her palms against her eyes, hard enough to see stars. "I've been carrying this for four days. I told my brother and he believed me because he had to, because he saw the ears and the magic and he had no choice. I told Sera and she figured it out on her own because she's too smart for her own good. But you — you didn't have to believe me. You could have walked away. You still could."
"I'm not walking anywhere."
"Why?"
Dani was quiet for a long moment. The cat jumped down from the back of the couch and padded across the floor, and the only sound was the soft click of its claws on the wood. Then Dani said, "Because I know what it's like to wake up one day and realize the person everyone thought you were isn't the person you actually are. It's not the same — I know it's not the same, I'm not trying to compare — but I know what it costs to say that out loud to someone. And you just did it. You just gave me the scariest thing you have, and you're still sitting here, and you're still holding my hand."
Aria looked down. She hadn't realized she was holding Dani's hand. Her fingers were wrapped around Dani's, white-knuckled, and Dani's thumb was tracing a slow circle on her knuckle, the way she'd done at the table, the way she'd done in the car.
"I don't know what I'm doing," Aria whispered. "I don't know how to be this. I don't know how to be anything."
"You don't have to know tonight."
"But I —" Aria's throat closed. "I can do magic. Real magic. I can heal people. I can fix things. I can —" She laughed, a wet, broken sound. "I can shoot lightning from my hands. And I spent today at a laundromat mending socks for a dollar each because I didn't know what else to do with myself."
Dani's mouth twitched. "You mended socks?"
"And a mug. And a toaster. And —" Aria wiped her eyes with her free hand, smearing the tears she hadn't realized were falling. "There was a woman with a picture frame. Her husband's photo. The glass was cracked and she couldn't afford a new one, and I just — I touched it, and it was whole, and she cried, and I didn't know what to say to her."
"What did you say?"
"I said 'there you go' and I took her dollar and I went back to the counter and I stood there for like ten minutes trying not to cry."
Dani laughed, soft and warm, and Aria felt the sound of it in her own chest. "That's the most elven thing I've ever heard."
"What does that even mean?"
"It means you're a magical being who fixed a widow's picture frame and then had a crisis about it. That's —" Dani shook her head, still smiling. "That's very you. I don't know you that well yet, but I know that's you."
Aria didn't know what to do with that. She sat there, her hand in Dani's, her heart still hammering, and she felt something loosen in her chest, something she hadn't even known was clenched.
"I have powers," she said, quieter now. "Real ones. I have — I have spell points, like in the game. When I use them, they run out, and the only way to get them back is —" She stopped. Her face went hot. "Never mind."
"No, finish that sentence."
"It's embarrassing."
"Aria. You just told me you used to be a man and now you're an elf. Embarrassing is a very low bar right now."
Aria squeezed her eyes shut. "The only way to restore my spell points is to — to swallow semen or be inseminated. It's called Succubic Restoration and it's on my character sheet and my friend wrote it and there's a note that says 'no cheesing it' and I want to die."
The silence stretched. Aria kept her eyes shut, waiting for the laugh, the awkward cough, the careful change of subject. Instead she heard Dani say, very slowly, "So you're telling me that if I —"
"Please don't finish that sentence."
"No, I'm just — I'm trying to understand." Dani's voice had gone careful, almost clinical, and Aria forced her eyes open. Dani was looking at her with an expression she couldn't read. "You have magic powers that run out, and the way you recharge them is sex."
"Effectively. Yes. I hate it."
"And this is on your character sheet. In the game you were playing."
"Yes."
"And your friend wrote it."
"She didn't know it would become real. She thought it was a joke. It was a joke. And now it's —" Aria gestured vaguely at herself, at the whole impossible situation. "This."
Dani sat back, and Aria felt the absence of her hand like a small cold spot. But Dani wasn't pulling away — she was just looking, her dark eyes moving over Aria's face like she was reading something there.
"Okay," Dani said finally. "So let me get this straight. You're an elf. You have magic. You have a limited pool of magic that recharges when you have sex. And you're sitting on my couch telling me all of this because — why?"
"Because I didn't want to lie to you."
"You could have lied. You could have made something up. You're good at it — you had me convinced you were from Vermont."
"I know." Aria's voice was small. "But I didn't want to — I don't want to do that with you. I don't want to be another person I have to keep a secret from. I've got Mike, and I've got Sera, and Sera knows because she figured it out, and Mike knows because he's my brother, and I just — I wanted one person who I told because I chose to. Not because they found out. Because I chose."
Dani was quiet for a long moment. The cat had returned and was weaving between their feet, and Dani reached down absently and scratched behind its ears. Then she looked up at Aria, and her eyes were soft.
"Thank you," she said.
"For what?"
"For choosing me."
Aria felt her eyes sting again. She blinked, hard, and looked away, at the books on the shelf, at the jar of dried flowers, at the guitar in the corner. "I don't know what happens now," she said. "I don't know what I'm doing. I have a job mending things at a laundromat and a brother who's probably pacing his apartment right now and a friend who's building a character for a game night on Friday and I have no idea how to be a person, let alone an elf."
"You don't have to know tonight," Dani said again, and this time she reached out and took Aria's hand again, and Aria let her. "You just have to be here. That's enough."
"Is it?"
"Yeah." Dani squeezed her hand. "It is."
They sat there for a while, not talking, and the quiet settled around them like a blanket. The cat jumped back up onto the couch and curled into a ball between them, and Dani scratched its head, and Aria watched the way her fingers moved, gentle and sure.
"Pancake," Aria said.
"That's him."
"He's very round."
"He's very loved. There's a difference."
Aria laughed, and it came out easy, and she realized she was still holding Dani's hand and that she didn't want to let go. "I don't want to go home," she said, and the words surprised her.
Dani's thumb stilled on her knuckle. "You don't have to."
"I mean — I should. Mike will worry. He's probably —" She gestured vaguely toward the window, toward the town outside, toward her brother pacing in the apartment with its clean counters and mended windshield. "But I don't want to."
"Then don't."
"I can't just —" Aria stopped. Looked at Dani. The lamp caught the soft curve of her jaw, the patient set of her mouth, the dark eyes that had been watching her all night without flinching. "Can I stay?"
"You can stay." Dani's voice was quiet, warm. "I'd like that."
Aria let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding. "Okay," she said. "Okay."
Dani stood up and pulled her gently to her feet, and the dress slid against her skin, and the cat meowed in protest at being displaced. Dani led her down a short hallway to a bedroom with a rumpled bed and a window that looked out onto the street, and the curtains were thin and the streetlight leaked through them in pale orange stripes.
"I don't have pajamas that will fit you," Dani said, a little apologetically. "I have a t-shirt that might work? It's big on me."
"That's fine."
Dani dug a shirt out of a drawer and handed it to her — a soft gray thing with a faded band logo on the chest — and Aria held it, feeling the worn fabric between her fingers. "I'll give you a minute," Dani said, and slipped out, closing the door behind her.
Aria stood alone in the bedroom, in the pale orange light, holding the shirt. She looked at the bed, at the rumpled sheets, at the small stack of books on the nightstand. She looked at her own reflection in the dark window — a woman with silver hair and pointed ears and violet eyes, wearing a purple dress that hung off one shoulder, holding a gray t-shirt that wasn't hers.
She had never been in a woman's bedroom before. Not like this. Not with the door closed and the bed waiting and the weight of what was about to happen settling in her chest.
She undressed slowly, letting the dress fall to the floor, and she stood in her underwear in the orange light and looked at her own body in the window glass. The curve of her hips. The swell of her breasts. The long column of her throat. It was her body now, had been her body for four days, and she still caught herself surprised by it, still caught herself looking at her reflection like it might change.
She pulled on the shirt. It fell to her mid-thigh, soft and worn, and it smelled faintly of Dani — cinnamon and something floral, the same smell that filled the apartment. She rolled the sleeves up past her wrists and stood there, and she felt — she didn't know what she felt. Nervous. Hungry. Alive.
"You okay in there?" Dani's voice came through the door, muffled.
"Yeah." Aria's voice came out steady. "Come in."
The door opened, and Dani stepped in, wearing a tank top and soft shorts, her hair loose around her shoulders. She looked at Aria standing there in the gray shirt, and her eyes went soft, and she smiled a small quiet smile.
"That's my shirt," she said.
"It's comfortable."
"It looks better on you."
Aria felt her face go warm. "You're just saying that."
"I'm not." Dani crossed the room and stopped in front of her, close enough that Aria could feel the warmth of her. "I'm not saying anything I don't mean."
Aria looked up at her — Dani was taller, the way she'd been in the car, the way she'd been on the street — and she felt the familiar flutter in her chest, the one that had been there since the bar, since the first smile, since the moment Dani had looked at her like she was worth looking at.
"I don't know what I'm doing," Aria said, and her voice was barely a whisper.
"That's okay." Dani reached up and brushed a strand of silver hair from Aria's face, her fingers trailing along the pointed tip of her ear, and Aria shivered. "We don't have to do anything. We can just — be here. Together. That's enough."
"But I want —" Aria stopped. Swallowed. "I want to be touched. I want to be close to you. I want —" She couldn't finish the sentence, couldn't find the words for the wanting that had been building in her all night, all day, all week.
Dani's eyes were dark and soft. "Show me," she said.
Aria kissed her.
It was different from the kisses on the couch, different from the kisses in the car. This one was slower, deeper, a question and an answer at the same time. Dani's hands came up to cup her face, and Aria's hands found Dani's waist, and they stood there in the orange light, learning each other's mouths.
"Aria," Dani breathed, and her voice was rough. "I want to touch you. Everywhere. I want to —"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes." Aria's voice was steady now, sure in a way she hadn't been all night. "I'm sure. I want this. I want you. I want to know what it feels like to be — to be with someone who sees me. All of me. And doesn't run."
Dani kissed her again, and her hands slid down Aria's sides, over the thin fabric of the shirt, and Aria felt the warmth of her palms through it. Then Dani's hands found the hem, and she pulled the shirt up, slow, and Aria lifted her arms and let her take it, and she stood in the orange light in her underwear, and Dani looked at her.
"You're so beautiful," Dani said, and it wasn't a line, wasn't a compliment, wasn't anything but a fact she was stating. "You know that?"
Aria shook her head.
"I know." Dani stepped closer, and her hands found Aria's waist, and she kissed her again, softer this time, and Aria felt the kiss like a promise. "I'm going to show you."
They moved to the bed, and Dani guided her down onto the sheets, and the world narrowed to the warm dark of the room and the sound of their breathing and the weight of Dani's body against hers. Aria lay back and Dani followed her down, propped on one elbow, looking at her with those dark patient eyes.
"Tell me what you want," Dani said. "Tell me and I'll do it."
"I don't know what I want." Aria's voice was small. "I've never — I've never done this. Not like this. Not —" She stopped, swallowed. "I've never been with anyone as me."
Dani's expression softened. "Then we'll figure it out together."
She kissed Aria again, and her hand came up to cup Aria's breast through the thin lace of her bra, and Aria gasped against her mouth. The touch was light, almost tentative, and then Dani's thumb found her nipple and circled it, and Aria's back arched and she made a sound she'd never heard herself make before.
"That sound," Dani murmured against her throat. "I love that sound."
Aria couldn't answer. Dani's mouth was on her neck now, on her collarbone, trailing down, and her hand was still moving, finding the rhythm of Aria's body, learning it. Aria's hands found Dani's shoulders, held on, and she felt the world tilting, felt herself falling into the feeling, into the warmth, into the impossible reality of this.
Dani's mouth found her breast through the lace, and Aria cried out, and Dani's hand slid down her stomach, down to the waistband of her underwear, and Aria's whole body went tense with anticipation.
"Is this okay?" Dani asked, and her voice was rough.
"Yes." Aria's voice was barely a breath. "Yes, please, yes —"
Dani's fingers slid under the fabric, and Aria felt the first touch of them against her, and she bucked, gasped, grabbed at Dani's shoulders. Dani's fingers were slow, careful, finding her wet and ready, and Aria felt herself melting, felt the heat pooling and spreading, felt the world narrowing to the point where Dani's fingers moved.
"You're so wet," Dani breathed. "God, you're so ready."
"I've been ready since the car." Aria's voice came out broken. "Since the bar. Since —"
"Since when?"
"Since you smiled at me."
Dani made a sound low in her throat, and her fingers moved faster, and Aria's head fell back against the pillow and she felt herself climbing, climbing, the edge approaching like a wave she could see but not stop.
"Look at me," Dani said, and Aria forced her eyes open. "I want to see you when you come."
Aria couldn't hold her gaze. The wave was breaking, the feeling crashing over her, and she cried out, and Dani's mouth found hers and swallowed the sound, and Aria shook and trembled and came apart under Dani's hands, in Dani's bed, in the warm orange light of a room that wasn't hers but felt, for this moment, like it could be.
When it finally ebbed, Aria lay breathless, trembling, her heart hammering against her ribs. Dani pulled her hand free and wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close, and Aria buried her face in the curve of Dani's neck and let herself be held.
"Okay?" Dani asked, her voice soft.
"Yeah." Aria's voice was hoarse. "Yeah. That was —"
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
Aria lay in the warm dark, breathing in the scent of Dani's neck, the soft skin against her lips. Her heart was still hammering, her thighs still trembling, the aftershocks of what Dani had done to her still rippling through her body in slow, lazy waves.
But it wasn't enough.
She felt it rising in her chest, that fierce hunger she'd been carrying since the bar, since the moment Dani had looked at her across the crowded room. The wanting that had followed her through every day of this impossible new life, growing sharper and more insistent with every hour. Dani had given her pleasure, had shown her what this body could feel, had made her come apart under patient, knowing hands.
But Aria hadn't given anything back.
She lay there for a long moment, feeling the weight of Dani's arm across her waist, the warmth of their bodies pressed together. Then she made a decision. It rose up from somewhere deep inside her, from the place that had been Jason and was now something else entirely, something that knew exactly what it wanted and was done being afraid of it.
"Dani," she said, and her voice came out steadier than she felt.
"Mm?" Dani's fingers traced lazy circles on her hip.
"I want to touch you."
Dani's hand stilled. She pulled back just enough to look at Aria's face, her dark eyes searching. "You don't have to—"
"I know." Aria reached up and touched Dani's cheek, felt the warmth of her skin. "I want to. I've been wanting to. Since the car, since the bar, since—" She swallowed. "Since I saw you. I want to know what you feel like. I want to make you feel the way you made me feel."
Dani's breath caught. "Aria—"
"Show me what to do." It wasn't a question. It was a plea, and Aria didn't care how desperate it sounded. "I've never done this. Not like this. Not as me. But I want to learn. I want to learn you."
Dani looked at her for a long moment, and something shifted in her eyes, something soft and fierce and tender all at once. Then she leaned in and kissed Aria, slow and deep, and Aria felt the kiss like a promise.
"Okay," Dani murmured against her lips. "Okay. But you tell me if you want to stop. Any time. No questions."
"I won't want to stop."
Dani smiled, that crooked smile that made Aria's chest ache. "We'll see."
Aria's hands found the waistband of Dani's jeans. Her fingers trembled as she worked the button free, pulled the zipper down, and Dani lifted her hips to help her slide the denim down her legs. Beneath, Dani wore simple black lace, and Aria could see the shape of her through the fabric, the promise of her.
Her mouth went dry.
"It's okay," Dani said softly. "Take your time."
Aria hooked her fingers under the lace and pulled it down. And then Dani was bare beneath her, and Aria looked at her, really looked at her, at the soft curve of her hips, the dark hair between her thighs, the way her body opened and welcomed. She was beautiful. She was everything.
"You're so beautiful," Aria breathed, and she meant it with every fiber of her being.
Dani's cheeks flushed. "Look who's talking."
Aria leaned down and kissed her, and Dani's thighs fell open like an invitation. Aria's hand slid down between them, and she felt the heat of her, the wetness, the softness. Dani gasped against her mouth, and Aria felt the sound like a current through her own body.
"Can I—" Aria's voice caught. "Can I taste you?"
Dani's answer was a shuddering breath and her hand in Aria's hair, guiding her down. Aria went willingly, trailing kisses down Dani's stomach, her hips, her thighs. She could smell her now, musky and sweet, and the scent of her made Aria's head spin.
She pressed her mouth to Dani's center, and Dani's whole body jerked.
Aria had never done this before. She had imagined it, a thousand times, in the dark of her old life, but the imagining had been nothing like this. The taste of her, the heat, the way Dani's hips rolled against her mouth. Aria found a rhythm, clumsy at first, then surer, and Dani's hand tightened in her hair.
"Yes," Dani breathed. "Yes, right there, don't stop—"
Aria didn't stop. She learned Dani's body with her tongue, with her lips, with the soft pressure of her fingers. She learned the sounds she made, the way her thighs trembled, the way her back arched when Aria found the right spot. And when Dani came, crying out her name, Aria felt it like her own pleasure, a bright flare of triumph and want.
Dani pulled her up and kissed her, and Aria tasted herself on Dani's lips, tasted them both. It was the most intimate thing she had ever done, and she wanted more.
"That was—" Dani's voice was rough, wrecked. "God, Aria. You're a natural."
Aria laughed, breathless. "I had a good teacher."
Dani's hands found her waist, pulled her close. "I want to touch you again. I want to feel you come on my tongue."
Aria's whole body flushed. "Yes."
Dani shifted, and Aria found herself on her back, Dani's mouth trailing down her body, her hands pushing Aria's thighs apart. And then Dani's tongue found her, and Aria's head fell back against the pillow, and the world narrowed to the wet heat of Dani's mouth and the building pressure in her core.
It was different from before. Slower, deeper, more deliberate. Dani took her time, drawing out every sensation, and Aria felt herself climbing, climbing, the edge approaching like a wave she could see but not stop.
"Look at me," Dani said, and Aria forced her eyes open, looked down at Dani between her thighs, at the dark eyes watching her. "I want to see you."
Aria couldn't hold her gaze. The wave was breaking, the feeling crashing over her, and she cried out, her back arching, her hands gripping Dani's hair. And Dani's mouth stayed on her, swallowing her pleasure, until the trembling ebbed and Aria lay limp and gasping on the sheets.
Dani crawled up and lay beside her, pulling her close. Aria buried her face in Dani's neck and let herself be held, her heart still hammering, her body still singing.
"Okay?" Dani murmured.
"Yeah." Aria's voice was hoarse. "Yeah. That was—"
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
They lay together in the warm dark, and Aria felt something settle in her chest, something that felt almost like peace. But the hunger was still there, sharper than ever, and she knew it wouldn't be satisfied by this alone.
"Dani," she said, and her voice was quiet but steady. "I want you to fuck me."
Dani went still. "Aria—"
"I mean it." Aria pulled back just enough to look at her, to meet her eyes. "I want to feel you inside me. I want to know what it's like. I want to be—" She swallowed. "I want to be yours. Just for tonight. I want to open myself to you."
Dani's eyes were dark, searching. "You're sure? You've never—"
"I've never done any of this." Aria's voice was barely a whisper. "But I know what I want. I want you. All of you. I want to feel you in every way I can."
"I want you," Aria said, and her voice was steady. "All of you. Every part. I want to feel you inside me. I want to know what it's like to be filled by you. I want to be yours, just for tonight."
Dani kissed her then, fierce and desperate, and Aria kissed her back with everything she had. Their hands found each other, their bodies pressed together, and Aria felt the heat building between them, the impossible reality of this moment.
Dani pulled back, breathless. "There's something else. Something I need to tell you before we go further."
"What?"
"I'm—" Dani's voice caught. "I'm not on hormones anymore. I stopped a few months ago, because I wanted to—I wanted to keep my options open. I can still get someone pregnant. If we—if I—"
Aria understood. The words landed like a weight in her chest, and she felt the fear rise up, cold and sharp. She had been so caught up in the wanting, in the need to be touched and filled and claimed, that she hadn't thought about the consequences. She was an elf now. She didn't know if elven bodies could even conceive with human sperm. She didn't know if there was such a thing as elven birth control.
But she knew she couldn't risk it.
"Okay," she said, and her voice was steadier than she felt. "Okay. Thank you for telling me."
Dani's eyes were searching, worried. "If you want to stop—"
"I don't want to stop." Aria reached up and touched Dani's face, felt the warmth of her skin. "I want this. I want you. But I need you to understand something too."
"What?"
Aria took a breath. "I don't know if I can get pregnant. I'm an elf. I don't know if my body works the same way as a human's. But I'm not willing to find out tonight. Not like this. So—" She met Dani's eyes, held her gaze. "You can have me. Every hole. Every way you want me. But there are only two places you can finish."
Dani's breath caught. "Aria—"
"My mouth," Aria said, and her voice was quiet but clear. "Or my ass. You can choose. But not inside my cunt. I'm not ready for that risk."
Dani looked at her for a long moment, and something shifted in her eyes, something dark and hungry and tender all at once. "You're serious."
"I've never been more serious about anything in my life."
Dani leaned in and kissed her, slow and deep, and Aria felt the kiss like a vow. "Then I choose," Dani murmured against her lips. "But not yet. I want to take my time with you first. I want to learn every inch of this body before I claim any part of it."
Aria shivered. "Yes."
Dani's hands moved down her body, tracing the curve of her hips, the swell of her breasts, the dip of her waist. Her mouth followed, trailing kisses down Aria's throat, her collarbone, the valley between her breasts. And Aria lay back and let herself be worshipped, let herself be learned, let herself be opened.
Dani's mouth found her nipple, and Aria gasped, her back arching. Dani's tongue circled it, teased it, and Aria's hands found Dani's hair, held on. Dani's other hand slid down her stomach, down between her thighs, and Aria felt the familiar heat building again, the ache that never quite went away.
"You're so wet," Dani murmured against her skin. "So ready."
"I've been ready since the bar." Aria's voice came out broken. "Since you smiled at me. Since—"
"Since when?"
"Since I saw you." Aria's eyes fluttered closed. "Since I realized I wanted to be yours."
Dani's mouth left her skin, and Aria felt the absence like a cold draft. She opened her eyes to find Dani propped on one elbow above her, dark hair falling across her face, eyes tracing Aria's body with a reverence that made her chest ache.
"You're sure about this?" Dani asked. "All of it?"
Aria reached up and pulled her down into a kiss, soft and deliberate. "I told you. I've never been more sure of anything."
Dani kissed her back, then drew away and sat up, reaching for the hem of her shirt. "Then let me get comfortable."
Aria watched as Dani pulled the shirt over her head and tossed it aside. Her breasts were full and soft, her skin smooth and warm in the low light. Aria's hands itched to touch her, and she reached out without thinking, her fingers finding the curve of Dani's waist.
"You're beautiful," Aria breathed.
Dani caught her hand and pressed it flat against her stomach, holding it there. "So are you. God, Aria. You have no idea what you do to me."
Aria's fingers traced upward, learning the shape of Dani's ribs, the swell of her breast. Dani's breath hitched, and Aria felt a surge of power, of wonder, at the sound. She wanted to learn every inch of this body, to map it with her hands and her mouth until she knew it better than her own.
But there was something else she wanted more.
"Dani," she said, and her voice came out steadier than she felt. "I want to touch you. All of you. I want to see you."
Dani's eyes searched hers. "You've seen me."
"I want to see all of you." Aria met her gaze, held it. "I want to know what you feel like in my hand. In my mouth. I want to make you feel the way you made me feel."
Dani's throat worked. "Aria—"
"I know what you are." Aria reached up and touched her face, felt the warmth of her, “I don't care. I want you. Every part of you. I want to learn you."
Something cracked open in Dani's eyes, something raw and tender. "You're really something, you know that?"
"So I've been told." Aria smiled, and it felt like the first true smile she'd given in this body. "Now stop trying to protect me and let me worship you."
Aria's fingers found the button of Dani's jeans before she could think about it, before the doubt could creep back in and talk her out of this. She worked it free with a pop, and Dani's breath caught, her hips lifting slightly off the mattress, an invitation that made Aria's mouth go dry.
"You're sure?" Dani asked, and her voice had gone rough at the edges, stripped of its usual easy confidence.
Aria answered by hooking her fingers into the waistband and pulling. The denim slid down Dani's thighs, revealing long, smooth legs, the dark lace of her underwear, the shape of her beneath the fabric. Aria's hands trembled as she worked the lace down, and then Dani was bare beneath her, and Aria looked at her, really looked at her, at the soft curve of her hips, the dark hair between her thighs, the way her body opened and welcomed. She was beautiful. She was everything.
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
Dani's laugh was a breathless sound, half surrender, half wonder. She let Aria push her back against the pillows, let Aria straddle her hips, let Aria's hands roam where they wanted. The lamp on the nightstand cast a low golden wash across them both, catching the sheen of sweat on Dani's collarbone, the soft shadows between her breasts.
Aria leaned down and kissed the hollow of Dani's throat, felt the pulse fluttering there, quick as a bird. She trailed her lips lower, over the curve of Dani's breast, and Dani's hands came up to cup Aria's face, guiding her, wordless and patient.
"Slow," Dani murmured. "We have all night."
But Aria didn't want slow. She wanted to devour, to memorize, to claim. She took Dani's nipple into her mouth and sucked, and Dani gasped, her back bowing off the mattress. Aria's hand slid down between Dani's thighs again, and this time she didn't hesitate. She found Dani's cock, thick and hot in her hand, and Dani's whole body shuddered.
"Fuck," Dani breathed. "Aria—"
"I want to taste you." Aria's voice was low, certain. "I told you. I want all of you."
She slid down Dani's body, trailing kisses down her stomach, her hip, the inside of her thigh. Dani's hands tangled in Aria's hair, not pulling, just holding, as if she needed the anchor. Aria pressed her lips to the base of Dani's cock, felt it jump against her mouth, and Dani made a sound that was almost a sob.
Aria took her into her mouth, and the weight of her, the taste of her, the way Dani's hips rolled in a helpless rhythm—it was nothing like she had imagined. It was better. It was real. She found a rhythm, bobbing her head, using her tongue, and Dani's grip in her hair tightened.
"Yes," Dani gasped. "Yes, just like that—"
Aria looked up, meeting Dani's eyes, and the sight of her—dark hair spread across the pillow, lips parted, chest heaving—sent a thrill through Aria's core. She took Dani deeper, until her nose brushed the soft hair at the base, and Dani cried out, her thighs trembling around Aria's shoulders.
"I'm close," Dani warned, her voice wrecked. "Aria, I'm going to—"
Aria pulled back, her mouth slick, her breath coming fast. "Not yet," she said, and her voice was steady, even as her heart pounded. "I want you inside me first."
Dani's eyes went dark. "You said—"
"I said you can finish in my mouth or my ass." Aria crawled up Dani's body, straddling her hips, feeling the heat of Dani's cock against her thigh. "But I want to feel you inside me. I want to feel you in my cunt. Just not—not finishing there."
Dani's hands found Aria's hips, held her. "You're sure?"
"I've never been more sure of anything." Aria reached down and guided Dani's cock to her entrance, felt the tip pressing against her slick heat. "I want to feel you. I want to feel how you fill me. And then—" She leaned in, her lips brushing Dani's ear. "Then you can choose where you finish."
Dani's breath caught. "Fuck, Aria."
Aria sank down, and the stretch was a bright, burning pleasure that stole her breath. She felt Dani's cock slide into her, inch by inch, filling her in a way she had never been filled before. She gasped, her nails digging into Dani's shoulders, and Dani's hands gripped her hips, holding her steady.
"Okay?" Dani's voice was strained.
"Yes." Aria's voice was barely a whisper. "God, yes. Don't move. Let me—let me feel you."
She sat there for a long moment, feeling the pulse of Dani inside her, the impossible fullness. Then she began to move, a slow roll of her hips that made Dani groan, made Aria's head fall back. She found a rhythm, rising and falling, and Dani's hands guided her, helped her, and the sound of their bodies coming together filled the warm dark.
"You feel incredible," Dani breathed, her voice rough. "So tight, so wet—"
Aria rode her, faster now, chasing the pleasure that coiled low in her belly. Dani's thumb found her clit, circled it, and Aria cried out, the sensation sharp and bright. She was close, so close, and she could feel Dani's hips bucking beneath her, feel the tension building in Dani's body.
"I'm going to come," Aria gasped. "Dani, I'm—"
"Come for me," Dani said, and her voice was a command, a plea, a prayer. "Come on my cock, Aria. Let me feel you."
Aria shattered. Her body clenched around Dani, waves of pleasure crashing through her, and she cried out Dani's name, her hands gripping Dani's shoulders, her hips grinding down. Dani held her through it, stroking her back, murmuring praise, and when Aria finally stilled, trembling and breathless, Dani pulled her down into a kiss, soft and tender.
"That was—" Aria's voice was hoarse. "That was—"
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
They lay tangled together, breathing hard, and Aria felt the aftershocks still rippling through her. But the hunger was not spent. It had only grown sharper, more focused.
"Dani," she said, and her voice was quiet. "I want you to finish in my ass."
Dani went still. "Aria—"
"I mean it." Aria met her eyes. "I want to feel you come inside me. I want to feel you fill me. I want to be yours, completely, and I don't want to risk—" She swallowed. "I don't want to risk the other."
Dani's eyes were dark, searching. "You're sure? That's—it can hurt, the first time."
"I know." Aria's voice was steady. "I want it anyway. I want you."
Dani kissed her, slow and deep, and Aria felt the kiss like a promise. "Then let's take it slow," Dani murmured. "Let me open you up first."
Aria nodded, her heart pounding. Dani reached for the nightstand, pulled out a small bottle of lube, and Aria watched as she slicked her fingers. The scent of it filled the warm dark, and Aria's mouth went dry.
"Tell me if it hurts," Dani said, and her voice was gentle. "Tell me if you want to stop."
"I won't want to stop."
Dani's hand slid between Aria's thighs, and Aria felt her finger circle her entrance, slick and careful. Then Dani pressed inside, and Aria gasped at the unfamiliar sensation, the stretch, the fullness. Dani moved slowly, patiently, working her open, and Aria felt herself relaxing into it, the pleasure building alongside the pressure.
"More," Aria breathed. "I want more."
Dani added a second finger, and Aria's hips rolled, chasing the sensation. She felt open, vulnerable, exposed—and she wanted more. She wanted everything.
"Please," she gasped. "Dani, please—"
Dani withdrew her fingers, and Aria felt the loss like a cold draft. But then Dani was positioning herself, the tip of her cock pressing against Aria's entrance, and Aria's breath caught.
"Ready?" Dani asked.
Aria nodded, her throat tight. "Yes."
Dani pushed inside, slow and steady, and Aria cried out at the stretch, the burn, the impossible fullness. Dani paused, letting her adjust, and Aria's nails dug into the sheets.
"Okay?" Dani's voice was strained.
"Yes," Aria gasped. "Don't stop. Please don't stop."
Dani began to move, slow and deep, and Aria felt herself opening, taking her in, the pleasure building alongside the pressure. It was different from before, deeper, more intense, and Aria felt herself climbing toward a peak she hadn't known existed.
"I'm close," Dani gasped. "Aria, I'm going to—"
"Do it," Aria said, and her voice was fierce. "Fill me. I want to feel you come inside me."
Dani thrust deeper, harder, and Aria cried out as she felt Dani's cock pulse inside her, felt the hot flood of her release. The sensation tipped her over the edge, and she came with a sob, her body clenching around Dani, wave after wave of pleasure crashing through her.
They collapsed together, tangled and breathless, and Aria felt Dani's arms around her, holding her close. She buried her face in Dani's neck and let herself be held, her heart still pounding, her body still singing.
"Okay?" Dani murmured.
"Yeah." Aria's voice was hoarse. "Yeah. That was—"
"I know." Dani kissed her forehead. "I know."
They lay together in the warm dark, and Aria felt something settle in her chest, something that felt almost like peace. But even as she drifted toward sleep, she knew the hunger was still there, waiting. And she knew, with a certainty that surprised her, that this was only the beginning.
