The First Chit

Alara kneels on the cushioned white podium, her bound arms arching her back, the sheer fleece dress clinging to her sweat-slick skin as the theatre lights warm her. Mistress Lyra's voice rings out, naming chit number seven, and Darius Cole rises from the crowd, his grey eyes locked on her as he unbuckles his belt. He steps onto the podium, his thick, 8.5-inch cock already hard and leaking, and he grips her honey-blonde hair, tilting her face up. 'Open,' he says, and she does, her lips parting as he presses the broad head against her mouth, the weight of him heavy on her tongue as the cameras capture every inch. The act this chapter delivers: Darius Cole feeds his thick, 8.5-inch cock into Alara's mouth, her lips stretching around his girth as she sucks and gags, her first taste of a man's cock in front of the watching crowd, until he pulls out and smears her spit across her cheek.

The lights were warm. Not the soft amber of the dormitory at evening prayers, not the thin grey of dawn through the slatted windows where the girls slept in rows. These were theatre lights, white and pitiless, and they found every bead of sweat on her skin before it had time to cool.

Alara knelt at the centre of the podium. The cushion was cotton, flower-shaped, its petals splayed beneath her knees, and it had been pressed flat and white that morning by hands that were not hers. Her legs lay open across it, not wide — the ropes wouldn't allow wide — just enough that the cool of the room moved against the inside of her thighs. Above her, her wrists were bound to the two poles, and the pull drew her spine into a long shallow curve, ribs up, chin lifted. She had held the position for eleven minutes by her count. Her shoulders had begun to sing.

The sheer fleece dress was the only thing they had given her. Sleeveless, white, cut to fall just past her hips when she stood. Kneeling, it pooled at the tops of her thighs, and the fabric had gone translucent with her own heat — she could see the pink of her nipples pressed flat against it, the darker circles around them, the small ridge of her collarbones. Every breath moved the weave across her chest. She had stopped trying not to look down at herself. There was no point; the fabric showed her everything the room was already seeing.

The seats rose around her in a full circle, three tiers deep, and they were not full — not yet. A deflowering drew its crowd in pieces. The early ones sat forward with their elbows on their knees, talking quietly among themselves, and the later ones arrived in twos and threes through the doors at the back, their boots loud on the stone, their voices dropping as they took their places. Alara counted without meaning to. Forty-one. Forty-six. The murmur had a texture now, low and continuous, like water running under a floor.

She had dreamed of this room since she was small. Every girl did. They whispered about it in the dormitory after lights, lying on their backs with their hands folded on their stomachs, and the older ones who had already gone through it came back changed in a way that was hard to name — quieter, or louder, or simply further away. Alara had lain in the dark and imagined the lights, and the pole, and the hands. She had not imagined the sweat. She had not imagined how loud forty-six people breathing could be.

On the dais at the north edge of the circle, Mistress Lyra stood with her hands folded into the crimson of her gown. Silver streaked the black at her temples; her bun was severe enough to pull the skin at her hairline. She watched the doors, counting the seats the way Alara was counting, and when the last of the latecomers settled she turned her head and looked down at the podium for the first time.

The small smile she gave Alara was real. It was also brief.

"Ladies and gentlemen." Her voice carried without effort — she had never once, in Alara's hearing, raised it. "We are gathered for the deflowering of Alara, eighteenth year, of the fourth harvest. She has been kept whole for you. Tonight she is opened."

A sound went through the seats. Not applause. Nothing so crude. Just the shift of weight, the creak of leather, the low animal note of a room settling in to watch.

Alara's mouth had gone dry. She worked her tongue against the roof of it and tasted salt.

"The chits were drawn by her own hand this morning," Lyra went on, "before the binding. She does not know the names. Neither do you." A pause, measured. "The first chit is number seven."

Alara's breath caught somewhere high in her chest and stayed there. Seven. She remembered the chit — a small disc of bone, cool between her fingers, drawn blind from the bowl while Lyra watched with her hands folded. She had felt nothing about it at the time. She felt something about it now.

In the second tier, on the eastern side, a man stood up.

He rose slowly, the way a hill rises, and the men on either side of him leaned away without seeming to notice they were doing it. Broad through the chest, bronze-dark from the sun, with a black beard trimmed close to the jaw and grey eyes that had found her before his body had finished straightening. He was not hurrying. That was the first thing Alara understood about him, and she understood it in her stomach rather than her head: this man would never hurry anything.

He came down the tiered steps with his hands loose at his sides. The crowd's murmur thinned to nothing. She could hear his boots. She could hear, under them, the small wet sound of her own pulse in her ears.

He stepped onto the podium.

Up close he was larger and quieter both. She had to tilt her head back to keep his eyes, and the ropes took the weight of it, pulling her wrists taut above her. He looked at her for a long moment — her face, then lower, unhurried, the way a man reads a page he intends to finish. When his gaze came back up, something in it had settled.

His hands went to his belt.

The leather slid through the loops with a sound she felt in her teeth. Buckle, then strap, then the soft heavy fall of it against his thigh. He did not look away from her while he did it. He undid the button, drew the zipper down, and pushed his trousers past his hips, and his cock came free already hard, thick past anything she had seen drawn in the instruction plates, the head broad and dark and shining at the tip.

Alara's lips parted. She did not tell them to.

There was a table beside the podium — she had known it was there, had refused to look at it since the binding — and on it lay the toys, laid out in a row like instruments. She did not look at them now either. She looked at the man, at the width of him, at the fact that her mouth was going to have to hold that, and something in her lower belly turned over slow and hot and did not entirely feel like fear.

He stepped in close. His knee came down onto the cushion beside her thigh, and the whole podium dipped with his weight, and she felt the shift travel up through the cotton into her knees. His hand found her hair — the honey-blonde fall of it, loose down her back since the binding — and gathered a fistful at the nape, not rough, but not asking either. He tilted her face up.

His palm was calloused. She felt every ridge of it against her scalp.

"Open," he said.

His voice was low and even, the voice of a man telling a horse to stand. It was the first word anyone had spoken to her since the binding, and Alara heard herself answer it before she had decided to — a small sound, half breath, and her jaw going slack under his hand, her lips parting wide, her tongue settling flat behind her teeth.

He brought the head of his cock to her mouth and rested it there.

She had not known it would be hot. That was the first thing — the heat of it, blood-warm, heavier than it looked, the broad crown pressing her lower lip down and the salt of him already on her tongue before he had moved at all. She could smell him: clean soap at the root of it, and under that something darker, animal, the smell of a man who had been working all day and washed and would not stay washed long. Her nostrils flared. Her bound hands closed on nothing above her head.

He held there. A beat. Two. The room had gone entirely silent, and she understood, with a clarity that ran down her spine, that every one of those forty-six people was watching the point where his body met her mouth.

Then he pushed.

The stretch came first — her lips dragged wide around the girth of him, wider than they wanted, the corners of her mouth pulling taut and then past taut, and she made a sound against him that had nowhere to go. Her tongue flattened under the underside of his cock and felt the vein there, thick as a cord, and the pulse in it, and the taste of him flooding the whole of her mouth, salt and skin and something faintly bitter at the tip.

He did not stop at her lips. He fed himself in slow — an inch, then another — and she felt the head of him ride over her tongue and press the soft roof of her mouth and keep going, and her throat closed in a hard flinch, and she gagged, and he pulled back just enough to let her breathe through her nose before he pushed again.

"Breathe," he said, above her. "Through your nose. That's it."

She did. She got a breath in, thin and whistling, and on the next push she took him deeper, and her eyes were streaming now, and she could feel the wet of it running down toward her jaw, and still she did not look away from him — she couldn't, her face was tilted up in his fist and his grey eyes were on her the whole time, steady, reading her.

Her thighs had begun to shake against the cushion. She could feel herself, underneath the dress, gone slick and hot between her legs, the fabric clinging damp to her inner thighs, and she did not know whether the room could see it and found, distantly, that she did not care. Her hips had tilted forward without her permission, pressing down into the cotton, seeking something.

He saw that. Something moved at the corner of his mouth.

He drew out slowly — a long wet drag the whole length of her tongue, and she chased it with her lips without meaning to, and the sound that came out of her was not a sound she had ever made. He let her have the head of him again, just the head, resting on her lower lip, and she closed her mouth around it and sucked, and his breath went rough in his chest for the first time.

"Again," he said.

She took him deeper on her own this time, and the girth of him split her jaw wide and her throat worked around him and she gagged again, wetly, and kept going, because the sound he had made was the only thing in the room she wanted more of. Spit ran down her chin. Her wrists ached in the ropes. The lights were hot on the back of her neck and the crowd had begun to murmur again, low and pleased, and she could hear it the way you hear rain on a roof — present, far off, not hers.

He fucked her mouth in a slow rhythm, shallow and then not, and she learned it — learned to breathe on the pull, learned to keep her tongue moving along the underside, learned the exact depth at which her throat would close and how to back off before it did. Her knees had slid wider on the cushion. The flower petals had gone damp under her.

Then he stopped.

He drew himself out of her mouth entirely, and the cold air hit her wet lips and her empty tongue, and she made a small sound of protest before she could stop it. He looked down at her — mouth open, chin slick, eyes red-rimmed and streaming — and he did not smile, exactly, but his grey eyes had gone darker and warmer both.

He wiped himself on her cheek. Slow, deliberate, the broad head dragging a wet line from the corner of her mouth up across her jawbone, smearing her own spit into her skin, and he held her face still under his hand while he did it, so that the cameras could see.

He let go of her hair. Her head dropped an inch and she caught it, chin up, because something in her refused to let it fall all the way.

"Good girl," he said, so quietly that only she could hear it, and stepped back off the podium, and left her kneeling in the wet cotton with the taste of him still thick on her tongue.
