Chapter 18

Eight months into marriage. Aiah just finish a final discussion with some of the sponsors of the gala happening next week. She thought it’s a right decision to make sure all of the major and minor sponsors view this gala as something really important as hers. But one of them, a major sponsor, annoyed Aiah to the core today with his not so subtle request to include one of his business partner to the guest list. He’s doing a subtle hint about his massive financial leverage to take over the event. Aiah feels it, she has been facing men like this many times. And she knows what their hidden agenda is. She knows how will this go, they might demand changes to the charity's core mission, ask for inappropriate branding, or insist on controlling the guest list. And it annoys Aiah because he is one of the major sponsors, meaning, she can’t just call him out because she respects him. The gala is next week already and that man really has the audacity to make things hard last minute. She needs to rest, she needs to think, she needs Mikha. Aiah books a ride home. It’s just 3 in the afternoon and she told Mikha earlier that she will be out by 6 p.m. because Mikha told her that she will fetch Aiah but Aiah doesn’t care anymore. She wants to go home. She knows this gala will exhaust her mentally but she didn’t realize that it will come from a major sponsor. Aiah gets out the company. She doesn’t message Mikha that she’s going home. She rides the cab. They reach home. Aiah thanks the driver politely and walks inside the driveway, toward the main door. She walks inside the house, removing her heels, dropping her bag on the couch. She’s wearing a light blue and white stripes long sleeve polo that is tucked elegantly under her navy blue knee-length pencil skirt. She sees the gaming room open and hears Mikha playing. She walks there and opens the door. Mikha is on the couch, legs spread, controller on hand, her hair tied in a mid bun. Aiah thinks Mikha looks fucking edible. Mikha is shock to see Aiah, she panics and checks the time on her phone, her eyebrows knitting as she finds out Aiah went home early. Mikha says ‘baby, I thought you’ll be out 6 p.m.?’. Mikha is about to stand up but Aiah says flatly but soft ‘don’t you fucking dare move’. Mikha freezes. Aiah walks toward Mikha, standing between Mikha’s legs. Mikha gulps asking if she did something wrong. Aiah’s eyes softens and answers no. Aiah is annoyed and the best thing she can do to release her annoyance is through Mikha. Aiah ties her hair, looks back to see what Mikha is playing, a car racing game, then turns back at Mikha. Mikha’s eyes are full of worry now. She asks if Aiah is okay. Aiah shakes her head and says ‘but I will be’. Then Aiah kneels down. Mikha is confused. Aiah unties Mikha’s black cotton shorts. Mikha stops her. Aiah glares at Mikha. Mikha gulps again and asks what happened. Aiah doesn’t answer the question. Instead, she pulls Mikha’s shorts down and gets stuck on Mikha’s hips because she is sitting. Aiah stares at Mikha and demands Mikha to move her hips up a bit. Mikha stares at her, confused, worried, and shocked at the same time but she follows. Aiah pulls Mikha’s shorts and boxers briefs all the way down, out from Mikha’s ankles. Aiah stares at Mikha’s soft dick, it’s still huge even soft. Mikha is breathing hard now. Aiah stares at Mikha as she palms Mikha’s dick, waking it up. Mikha can only whimper and breathe hard. Aiah continues her stroke, she leans upward, close to Mikha’s face, and says that if Mikha loses the game, she will not let Mikha cum. Mikha curses and leans down to kiss Aiah. Aiah kisses back but pulls away immediately, her focus back on Mikha’s hardening dick now. Aiah orders Mikha to play. Mikha curses quietly, grabs her controller again and clicks, her ears reddening. Aiah smirks. Mikha is insanely hard now. Aiah strokes it more firmly, palming Mikha’s balls from time to time. Mikha leans her head back on the couch. Aiah tells her to focus. Mikha looks at Aiah, her eyes pleading but dark, and whispers that Aiah is going to kill her. Aiah answers ‘then die happy’, then she leans down and takes Mikha into her mouth, slowly, exploratory. Aiah eyes goes up to Mikha to see Mikha’s reaction. Mikha’s mouth is falling open, her eyes focus on the monitor and when it goes down to Aiah, Mikha curses and bites her lower lip, her face red. Aiah takes Mikha deeper, pushing herself to the limit to take all of Mikha. And she does. Mikha moans differently, more louder than Aiah has ever heard. This is the first time that she takes Mikha’s dick on her mouth. Aiah can feel the tears prickling her eyes with how huge and long Mikha’s dick is but she continues pleasuring Mikha using her mouth and hand. She grabs Mikha’s balls, pumps Mikha’s dick each time her mouth goes up a bit. Mikha looks wrecked, beautiful. Aiah feels Mikha is close. Aiah pops her mouth away from Mikha and tells Mikha that she will tell Mikha when to cum. Mikha whimpers, her whole face red. Aiah goes back to Mikha’s dick and continues her penetration. Mikha cries out, telling Aiah that she’s close. Aiah shakes her head. Mikha begs Aiah. Aiah shakes her head. Mikha curses desperately. Then Aiah hears Mikha’s car racing game crash. Mikha lost. Aiah stops. And the moment her mouth leaves Mikha, Mikha cums, hips jerking on nothing. Mikha whispers a series of curses and apologies as her thick cum spills over her white shirt. Aiah just watches, watching Mikha’s dick spill its own release even though Aiah is not holding it, even though Mikha is not holding. Mikha whispers she couldn’t help it and that she’s sorry. Aiah looks at Mikha and says dangerously that Mikha really doesn’t know how to follow orders. Mikha apologizes again and says Aiah is so fucking hot. Aiah sees Mikha’s dick is still insanely hard. Of course. Mikha leans down, reaches for Aiah’s jaw, and kisses her deeply. Aiah kisses back but she will not let Mikha dominate her today. Aiah stands up, and starts removing all of her clothes in front of Mikha. Mikha’s eyes darkens but she looks behind Aiah, at the glass walls. She stops Aiah on removing the clothes because Aiah might be seen here and Mikha doesn’t want that. Aiah deadpans and tells Mikha that the concrete walls around their house is higher than most trees. Mikha counters that what if maybe someone is using a drone and suddenly spots Aiah, Mikha will kill them. Aiah chuckles at Mikha’s ridiculousness, answers that she doesn’t fucking care bout that, and removes the rest of clothes down to her undergraments. Mikha is still blabbering about killing someone and drones so Aiah shuts Mikha up by kissing her hard as she settles down on Mikha’s lap. Mikha moans, her hands instanly palming Aiah’s ass cheeks. Aiah pulls Mikha’s shirt away over Mikha’s head, then they are kissing again. Aiah grinds her soaking wet pussy on Mikha’s dick. Mikha curses, gripping Aiah’s ass tighter, guiding Aiah’s grinding. Then Aiah sits up a bit. Mikha presses the tip of her dick against Aiah’s entrance. Then Aiah drops down in one smooth and deept motion. Mikha curses and moans loudly. Aiah moans loudly too because for a moment she forgets how huge Mikha is. Mikha asks if Aiah is okay. Aiah says she is mad but not at Mikha, then she rides Mikha. Hard. Mikha just lets Aiah take whatever she wants and needs at Mikha. Mikha stares at Aiah, at Aiah face that’s full of annoyance and adoration at the same time, at Aiah’s chest flushed chest, at Aiah’s bouncing breasts. Mikha takes one into her mouth, biting the nipple hard. Aiah moans, riding Mikha harder. When Mikha feels Aiah’s legs are giving out from moving too much, she takes the lead, she holds Aiah’s waist, and meets Aiah’s thrusts more firmly, deeply, and harder. Aiah’s head falls on Mikha’s shoulder. Mikha slides their body down a bit, finds her footing, and pounds even harder, making Aiah forget all her problems. Aiah is a moaning mess. And Mikha is doing no better because Aiah on top of her is always a sight to see. They cum together. Aiah is spent, her eyes closed, breathing hard. Mikha is breathing hard too, she kisses Aiah’s sweating temple and hugs Aiah, rubbing Aiah’s back gently. Then Mikha pulls out gently, letting Aiah stay on top of her. Aiah hisses. Mikha’s hand reaches down to Aiah’s ass, down to Aiah’s pussy, feeling how swollen it is from Mikha’s hard pounding earlier, patting it gently, soothing it. Mikha apologizes. Aiah shakes her head, eyes still closed, and tells Mikha that she likes the manhandling, that they should do it again. Mikha chuckles, kisses Aiah’s temple again, her arm hugs Aiah tighter while the other continues the gentle pats on Aiah’s pussy.

The elevator doors slide open on the executive floor, and Aiah steps out into the hush of it—carpet thick enough to swallow her heels, the low murmur of a floor that has already emptied for the day. Most of the staff went home an hour ago. She should have gone with them.

Instead, she walks past her assistant's empty desk, past the glass conference room where the afternoon light is going long and amber across the table, and into her office. She doesn't sit. She stands at the window with her arms crossed and watches the traffic clot on Ayala Avenue, red taillights stacking up like a wound that won't close.

Renato Villanueva had smiled the whole time. That's what she keeps coming back to. The smile. The way he'd leaned back in his chair with his hands folded over his stomach, like a man who had already won something and was just waiting for her to catch up.

"I'm not asking for much, Aiah. Just a plus-one. My business partner—he's very interested in the foundation's work. Very generous man. He could be a significant donor next year."

A plus-one. As if the guest list were a suggestion box and not a carefully curated room of people she had spent eight months vetting. As if she hadn't already turned down three other sponsors who'd tried the same thing with less charm.

She knows exactly what comes next. It always comes next. First the plus-one, then the branding request—just a small logo on the program, nothing intrusive—then a demand to shift the beneficiary allocation, then a quiet threat wrapped in warmth. We'd hate to reconsider our commitment this late in the game.

The gala is in seven days. Seven. And Renato Villanueva, who has been a sponsor for three years, who shook her father's hand at her christening, who calls her anak when he's feeling generous, has decided that now is the time to test how much she'll bend.

Aiah presses her thumb into the meat of her palm. The pressure is a small, private thing. It doesn't help.

She could call him. She could be diplomatic, flatter him, offer him something else—a seat at the head table, a mention in the opening remarks, anything that doesn't touch the guest list. But she's been doing this dance for eight months, and she's tired. Not the kind of tired that sleep fixes. The kind that sits behind her eyes and makes everything feel like it's happening at a distance.

Her phone buzzes on the desk. A message from Mikha: picking you up at 6. don't leave without me.

Aiah stares at it. The tiny heart Mikha had added after her name in the contact—she'd done it months ago, drunk, and never taken it off. Aiah has never changed it either.

She doesn't reply. She opens her ride app instead and books a car.

The lobby is cooler than her office, that same chilled cavern smell of ozone and lemon cleaner, and her footsteps echo sharply across the polished basalt as she crosses to the doors. The security guard nods at her. She nods back, automatic, and steps out into the heat.

The car is already waiting. She slides into the back seat and gives the address, then leans her head against the window and watches the city slide past—the billboards, the jeepneys, the vendors packing up their carts for the evening. None of it touches her.

She thinks about the gala. The seating chart. The program. The speech she still hasn't finished writing. She thinks about Renato's smile and the way his assistant had looked at her with something like pity, like she already knew how this would end.

She thinks about Mikha.

It's been eight months. Eight months since the wedding, seven since the first real conversation, six since the wet market, four since Stacey's birthday, three since the farm. She has stopped counting the days. She has stopped waiting for the other shoe to drop.

But sometimes—like now, in the back of a stranger's car with the city blurring past—she wonders if she's been naive. If Mikha's gentleness is a season, not a climate. If the woman who cried under the mango trees is the same woman who once whispered that she would ruin Aiah's life.

She doesn't know. And right now, she doesn't want to think about it.

The car pulls up to the house twenty minutes later. Aiah thanks the driver—salamat po, ingat po kayo—and steps out into the driveway. The gate is already open. It always is, now. Mikha turned off the fingerprint lock months ago and never turned it back on.

The house is quiet from the outside, but she can hear it as she gets closer—the low rumble of a television, the occasional burst of engine noise, a controller clicking. The gaming room. Of course.

She toes off her heels at the door and leaves them by the shoe rack. Her bag goes on the couch. She pads barefoot across the living room, unbuttoning the top button of her polo as she goes, and stops in the open doorway of the gaming room.

Mikha is sprawled on the couch, legs spread wide, controller in both hands, her red hair tied up in a messy mid-bun with strands escaping around her face. She's wearing a black cotton shirt and black shorts, and her jaw is set in that focused way she gets when she's losing.

Aiah's mouth goes dry.

God, she looks edible. The sharp line of her jaw, the pale skin of her throat, the way her shoulders fill out the shirt. Eight months and Aiah still hasn't gotten used to it. To her.

Mikha glances up. Her eyes go wide—a quick, startled flash—and she fumbles for her phone on the cushion beside her.

"Baby?" She checks the time, then checks it again, her eyebrows knitting together. "It's three. I thought you said six?"

She starts to stand, the controller clattering onto the couch cushion.

"Don't."

Aiah's voice comes out flat. Soft, but flat. The kind of voice she uses in boardrooms when someone has said something they shouldn't have. "Don't you fucking dare move."

Mikha freezes. Half-standing, half-sitting, one hand braced on the armrest. Her eyes track Aiah as she crosses the room, and there's something in her face—not fear, not quite. Wariness. The careful stillness of someone who has learned to read a room.

Aiah stops between Mikha's legs. She's close enough to smell her—soap and something warm underneath, the ghost of the coffee she must have had an hour ago. Mikha swallows.

"Did I do something?"

"No." Aiah's eyes soften, just a little. "Not you."

Mikha's shoulders drop an inch. She opens her mouth to ask something else—Aiah can see the question forming—but Aiah doesn't let her get there. She reaches up and gathers her hair, twisting it into a knot at the back of her head, and looks past Mikha at the screen.

A racing game. Some kind of circuit, the car wrecked against a barrier, the timer still counting down.

She looks back at Mikha. Mikha's eyes are full of worry now, the controller forgotten, her hands loose in her lap like she doesn't know what to do with them.

"Are you okay?"

Aiah shakes her head.

"But I will be."

She kneels.

The carpet is soft under her knees, and Mikha's shadow falls over her, and for a moment neither of them moves. Aiah can feel Mikha's eyes on her, can feel the question hanging in the air between them—what are you doing—and she ignores it. She reaches for the drawstring of Mikha's shorts and tugs it loose.

Mikha's hand catches her wrist. Gentle. Careful. The way she always is now, like Aiah is something that could break.

"Aiah."

Aiah looks up. She doesn't say anything. She just waits, her eyes level, and after a long moment Mikha's grip loosens. Her hand falls away.

"What happened?" Mikha's voice is low. "At work. What happened?"

Aiah doesn't answer. She pulls the shorts down instead, and they catch on Mikha's hips—she's sitting, her weight pinning the fabric—and Aiah pauses. Stares up at her.

"Lift your hips."

Mikha stares back. Confused. Worried. A little shocked, if the flutter at her throat means anything. But she lifts her hips, and Aiah drags the shorts and the boxers beneath them down together, over her thighs, past her knees, off her ankles. She tosses them aside.

And then she looks.

Mikha is soft, still. But even soft, she's huge—thick and long, resting against her thigh, the skin flushed dark at the tip. Aiah's mouth waters. She has thought about this, in the quiet moments she doesn't admit to. What it would be like to have Mikha in her mouth. To be the one in control, for once, of the thing Mikha does to her every time they touch.

Mikha's breathing has gone shallow. Her hands are gripping the couch cushions on either side of her, knuckles pale.

"Aiah—"

Aiah palms her. Just that—the flat of her hand against the warm weight of her, feeling her twitch and thicken under her touch. Mikha whimpers. Actually whimpers, a small broken sound that Aiah has never heard from her before, and Aiah feels it land somewhere low in her stomach.

She strokes her. Slow. Deliberate. Learning the shape of her, the way she hardens and lifts under Aiah's hand, the way Mikha's breath catches on every upstroke.

Then Aiah leans up. She brings her face close to Mikha's, close enough to feel the heat of her breath, and says, very quietly:

"If you lose the game, I won't let you cum."

Mikha's eyes go dark. She curses—putangina—and leans down to kiss her, but Aiah pulls back. Just an inch. Just enough. She glances at the screen, where the race has restarted, Mikha's car idling at the starting line.

"Play."

Mikha curses again, quieter this time, and fumbles for the controller. Her ears are red. The tips of them, bright against the pale of her skin, and Aiah files that away—the way Mikha blushes when she's embarrassed, when she's turned on, when she's losing control of something she thought she was in charge of.

Aiah smirks and goes back to her work.

Mikha is fully hard now, thick and straining, and Aiah wraps her hand around her and strokes—firmer this time, a twist at the top that makes Mikha's hips jerk. She palms her balls, heavy and warm, rolls them gently in her hand. Above her, Mikha's head falls back against the couch. A low sound escapes her throat.

"Focus," Aiah says.

Mikha looks down at her. Her eyes are pleading and dark at the same time, her mouth open, her face already flushed.

"You're going to kill me," she whispers.

"Then die happy."

Aiah leans down and takes her into her mouth.

Slow. Exploratory. She goes down an inch, comes back up, tongues the head, goes down again. Mikha is so big that her jaw aches almost immediately, but she doesn't stop. She wants this. She wants to feel Mikha come apart under her mouth, wants to be the reason for it.

She glances up. Mikha's mouth is open, her eyes flicking between the screen and Aiah's face—trying to play, trying to focus, failing. When her gaze drops to Aiah, she curses and bites her lower lip hard, and her face goes redder.

Aiah takes her deeper. Pushes herself, relaxes her throat, takes all of her. Her eyes water. She doesn't care. She holds there for a moment, breathing through her nose, feeling Mikha throb against her tongue.

Mikha moans.

It's loud. Louder than Aiah has ever heard from her—raw and unguarded, nothing held back. Aiah feels it in her chest. She pulls back, gasps a breath, and goes down again, working her hand in time with her mouth, pumping the base of Mikha's cock while her tongue drags along the underside.

She grabs Mikha's balls again, cups them, squeezes gently each time her mouth comes up. Mikha's hips start to move—small, helpless thrusts that she can't control—and Aiah lets her. Lets her fuck into her mouth, just a little. Lets her take what she needs.

Mikha looks wrecked. Beautiful. Her hair is coming loose from the bun, strands stuck to her temples, her chest heaving under the black shirt. Her eyes are glassy and fixed on Aiah like she's the only thing in the room.

Aiah can feel her getting close. The way she swells, the way her breathing changes, the way her thighs tense under Aiah's hands.

She pulls off. A string of saliva connects them for a moment, and she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand.

"I'll tell you when to cum."

Mikha whimpers. Her whole face is red now, from her hairline to her throat, and she nods—quick, desperate.

Aiah goes back down.

She works her faster now, mouth and hand together, and Mikha's moans turn into cries—high, broken sounds that she's trying to swallow and can't. Her hips are jerking. Her hand comes down to Aiah's head, fingers threading into her hair, not pushing, just holding.

"Aiah—" Her voice cracks. "I'm close. I'm—please—"

Aiah shakes her head. Doesn't stop.

"Please—"

Another shake.

Mikha curses. Desperate. Broken. "Please, baby, I can't—"

And then, from the speakers, the sound of a car crashing. Metal on metal. The race timer stops. Mikha has lost.

Aiah pulls her mouth away.

And Mikha comes.

Her hips jerk into nothing, into air, and she cries out—a long, ragged sound—as thick cum spills over her own shirt, over her stomach, stripe after stripe of it while Aiah just watches. Watches Mikha's cock pulse and spill without a hand on it, without anything, her body doing what it was told not to do.

Mikha whispers a string of curses. Apologies. Sorry, sorry, I couldn't—I tried—

Aiah sits back on her heels. Her knees ache. Her jaw aches. Her own body is throbbing, wet and swollen between her legs, but she ignores it for now. She looks at Mikha—flushed and spent and still apologizing—and something in her chest goes tight.

"You really don't know how to follow orders," she says. Dangerous. Quiet.

Mikha looks at her. Her eyes are still dark, still hungry, despite everything. "I'm sorry," she says again, and then, with something like wonder: "You're so fucking hot."

Aiah glances down. Mikha is still hard. Of course she is.

Mikha leans forward, reaches for Aiah's jaw, and kisses her—deep and slow, like she's trying to say something with it that she doesn't have words for. Aiah kisses back. She lets herself have it for a moment, lets Mikha's tongue slide against hers, lets the heat of it build.

Then she pulls away.

She stands up. Mikha's eyes follow her, confused, and Aiah reaches for the buttons of her polo. She works them open one by one, unhurried, watching Mikha watch her.

"Aiah—" Mikha's voice is rough. "The walls."

"What about them."

"The glass. Someone could—" She gestures vaguely at the glass walls of the gaming room. "What if there's a drone? What if someone's out there with a—I'll kill them. I'm serious, I'll fucking kill someone."

Aiah laughs. Actually laughs, the first real laugh she's had all day, and it loosens something in her chest.

"The concrete walls around this house are higher than most of the trees in the neighborhood," she says. "No one can see in."

"But what if—"

"I don't fucking care."

She drops the polo. Steps out of the skirt. Unclasps her bra and lets it fall, then hooks her thumbs into her underwear and slides it down her legs. She stands in front of Mikha in nothing, her hair still knotted up, her skin flushed, and watches Mikha's eyes go dark.

Mikha is still blabbering—something about drones, about security, about killing people—and Aiah shuts her up by climbing onto her lap and kissing her hard.

Mikha moans into her mouth. Her hands find Aiah's ass immediately, palms cupping her, pulling her closer. Aiah grinds down against her—against the hard length of Mikha's cock trapped between them—and feels her own wetness smear across Mikha's stomach.

"Fuck," Mikha breathes against her mouth.

Aiah pulls Mikha's shirt up and over her head. They're skin to skin now, chest to chest, and Mikha's hands are everywhere—her ass, her waist, her back, her hair. Aiah grinds harder, slower, dragging her pussy along the length of Mikha's cock, and Mikha curses and grips her hips, guiding her.

Then Aiah sits up. Lifts herself. Mikha's hand moves between them, takes hold of her cock, presses the tip against Aiah's entrance.

Aiah drops down.

One smooth motion. Deep. And she forgets, for a second, how big Mikha is—forgets the stretch, the fullness, the way it feels like too much until it isn't. She cries out, her nails digging into Mikha's shoulders, and Mikha curses and moans beneath her.

"Are you okay?" Mikha's voice is strained. "Baby, are you—"

"I'm mad," Aiah says. "But not at you."

And then she rides her.

Hard. Fast. She takes what she needs, uses Mikha's body the way she's been used all day by men who think they own the room. She fucks down onto her, over and over, and Mikha just takes it—lets her, watches her, hands loose on Aiah's hips like she's giving Aiah permission to take whatever she wants.

Mikha stares up at her. At her face, twisted with annoyance and adoration at once. At her flushed chest, her breasts bouncing with every thrust. At the sweat beading along her collarbones.

She leans up and takes one of Aiah's nipples into her mouth. Bites down.

Aiah moans—loud, sharp—and rides her harder. Her thighs are burning. Her legs are starting to shake.

Mikha feels it. She grips Aiah's waist, plants her feet on the floor more firmly, and takes over—meeting Aiah's thrusts with her own, harder and deeper, driving up into her with a force that makes Aiah's head fall forward onto her shoulder.

"Mikha—"

"I've got you."

Mikha slides them down the couch a little, finds better footing, and pounds into her. Aiah is a moaning mess—can't think, can't speak, can only feel. Every problem, every sponsor, every smiling man who thinks he can take what he wants—it's all gone. There's only Mikha, only this.

Mikha is close too. Aiah can feel it in the way her rhythm stutters, the way her breathing goes ragged, the way she buries her face in Aiah's neck and groans.

"Together," Aiah gasps. "Come with me."

And they do.

Aiah clenches around her, shuddering, her whole body going tight and then loose, and Mikha follows—thrusting up into her one last time, spilling deep, her arms wrapped so tight around Aiah's back that there's no space between them.

For a long moment, neither of them moves.

Aiah stays on top of her, spent, her eyes closed, her face pressed into Mikha's neck. Mikha is breathing hard beneath her, her heart hammering against Aiah's chest. Outside, the city hums on. Inside, there's only the sound of them catching their breath.

Mikha kisses her temple. Soft. Her hand comes up to rub Aiah's back, slow circles between her shoulder blades.

"You okay, love?" she asks.

Aiah nods against her neck.

Mikha pulls out gently, and Aiah hisses at the loss. Mikha's hand slides down—over her ass, between her legs—and finds her pussy, swollen and sore. She pats it gently, soothing, like she's apologizing to it.

"I'm sorry," Mikha murmurs.

Aiah shakes her head, eyes still closed. "I liked it."

"Yeah?"

"The manhandling." She opens her eyes, lifts her head just enough to look at Mikha. "We should do it again."

Mikha chuckles. It's a low, warm sound, and it vibrates through Aiah's chest. She kisses Aiah's temple again, her arm tightening around her, while her other hand keeps up those gentle, soothing pats.

"So," Mikha says after a moment. "You want to tell me what happened, or do I have to guess?"

Aiah closes her eyes again. The annoyance is still there, banked but not gone. She thinks about Renato's smile. The plus-one. The seven days she has left.

"One of the sponsors," she says. "He wants to add someone to the guest list. Last minute."

Mikha's hand pauses on her back. "Which one?"

"Villanueva."

A beat of silence.

"The one who calls you anak?" Mikha asks quietly.

"That's the one."

Mikha doesn't say anything. Aiah can feel her thinking, can feel the shift in her body—the way her jaw tightens, the way her hand goes still. She knows what Mikha is going to offer before she offers it.

"I could talk to him."

"No."

"Aiah—"

"No." Aiah lifts her head and looks at her. "This is my gala. My sponsor. I'll handle it."

Mikha holds her gaze for a long moment. Then she nods. "Okay."

"Okay?"

"Okay." Mikha's hand resumes its slow circles on her back. "But if he pushes too hard, I reserve the right to change my mind."

Aiah snorts. "Noted."

They stay like that for a while. The afternoon light has gone gold, then orange, and the room is filling with shadow.

Eventually Aiah shifts. "I need a shower."

"I'll come with you."

"You'll distract me."

"Probably." Mikha grins. "That's kind of my whole thing."

Aiah rolls her eyes, but she doesn't argue.

Mikha adjusts Aiah's body on top oh her, one arm holding Aiah's waist, while the other pushes them up to stand. Aiah's arms tighten around Mikha's neck, her ankles locking behind Mikha.

Mikha's both arms now carrying Aiah firlmy. She turns her head and catches Aiah's lips for one more kiss.

"For the record," Mikha says against her mouth, "you're terrifying. In a hot way."

"I know."
