Mara woke up smelling herself.
Not dramatically. No wall of stink threw the sheet back and marched her toward the shower. It was simply the first fact of the afternoon, arriving before she had properly opened her eyes: warm skin, slept-in hair, the whole unwashed length of yesterday still pressed close around her because she had climbed into bed carrying it on purpose and let it stay.
She lay still and did nothing about it.
The room was warm and shut. Afternoon light came through the blinds in three narrow bars across the far wall, and the sheet had wound itself around one calf sometime during the night, or the morning, or whatever long gray stretch of Sunday she had slept straight through without noticing.
Her phone said 4:40.
“Jesus.”
She had slept through the entire useful half of the day.
Fourteen notifications sat stacked on the lock screen. Mara looked at the number, decided fourteen separate entities could continue existing without her input for another few minutes, and set the phone back down.
Yesterday was still all over the apartment.
The new low-rise jeans lay pooled beside the bedroom door, one leg half inside out where she had stepped out of them. The gray thong was somewhere in that denim. The thin white shirt she had worn all day sat on the kitchen counter exactly where she had dropped it after smelling it one last time. The grocery bags had been emptied, mostly. The basil was still alive, technically. One mug sat beside the couch, another in the sink, and the pump basket had been shoved beneath the coffee table badly enough that a length of tubing curled across the floor like something that had crawled there and died.
None of it was filthy.
That wasn’t the word for it.
The apartment simply looked like nobody had come along behind Mara and erased the evidence that she had been living in it.
She liked that more than she probably should have.
The same was true of her.
Whatever shampoo had survived the market, the greenhouse and the thrift-store fitting room was almost entirely gone now. Her skin smelled warmer. Her hair smelled slept in. Yesterday’s sweat and natural musk had settled into something deeper overnight, less like a temporary consequence of heat and more like something that belonged to her.
Mara lifted one arm from the pillow and turned her face toward the inside of it.
She breathed.
Paused.
Breathed again.
Then smiled faintly at the ceiling.
Apparently that hadn’t worn off either.
That was the strange part. She had expected yesterday’s fascination to feel slightly ridiculous after sleep, the way an overly honest message sent at two in the morning could look different once daylight restored whatever dignity darkness had temporarily removed.
Instead her first thought was that she smelled stronger.
Her second was that she liked it.
Mara rolled onto her back and let the sheet fall away from her stomach.
On a stream day, normally, there was a ritual.
Shower first.
Always.
Not because anyone watching could smell her. Obviously they couldn’t. The shower mattered because it was the dividing line. Normal Mara went into the bathroom carrying whatever the day had done to her and came back out ready to become the version of herself that belonged in front of a camera.
Hair washed. Body scrubbed. Everything shaved or trimmed according to whatever she had decided mattered that week. Clean towels. Clean toys. Fresh lubricant. Fresh sheets if the bed might become involved. Anal prep if there was even a reasonable chance the stream could wander in that direction. Chair wiped down. Camera checked. Room rearranged just enough to look casual rather than actually be casual.
She had gotten very good at making spontaneity hygienic.
Mara sat up.
The sheet slid away, and the warm room seemed to find more of her at once. Yesterday, sleep and skin were still attached to her because she had deliberately chosen not to erase them before bed.
She looked toward the bathroom.
She could almost feel the old sequence waiting inside.
Hot water.
Soap.
Neutrality.
The reset.
She sat with her elbows on her knees for perhaps ten seconds.
Then thought:
No.
No dramatic argument followed.
That surprised her.
She didn’t tell herself it was sexy. Didn’t turn it into a dare. Didn’t bargain down to a quick rinse. She simply stood, stretched, walked past the bathroom door and went to make coffee.
The mug she grabbed had a chip on the rim. Mara drank standing naked at the kitchen counter while the coffee machine made irritated noises behind her and afternoon sunlight illuminated the dishes in the sink with far more dignity than they deserved.
Her phone buzzed.
She finally picked it up.
The message from last night was still there.
round two tonight?
Mara stared at it.
Apparently she had slept through the part where she was supposed to decide.
“Maybe.”
The apartment offered no opinion.
She put the phone down, took another drink and caught herself looking toward the bathroom again.
Still no.
That made her smile.
The shower wasn’t the only piece of her usual preparation she was beginning to reconsider.
She carried her coffee into the living room and started gathering things.
The underwear haul had been planned before yesterday became whatever yesterday had become. Six thongs she had ordered and then forgotten about until the package arrived, ranging from reasonably functional to objects that could only be classified as clothing by somebody with a financial interest in the answer.
She arranged them across the coffee table.
Black cotton.
Black lace.
A narrow mesh thong.
A micro thong whose packaging contained more material than the garment itself.
A pearl-string thong.
Crotchless.
Mara stood over the lineup with her coffee.
“Well, that’s stupid.”
Which meant she liked it immediately.
She pulled the pump basket all the way out from under the table and checked the tubing mostly from habit. The lubricant went beside it.
The toys stayed out of sight.
Mostly.
There was a zipped bag beneath the bed containing several things she absolutely did not need for an innocent underwear review. Mara carried it into the living room anyway and left it beside the chair, far enough outside the planned camera frame that viewers would never know it was there.
The dragon was at the bottom.
She knew that without opening the bag.
That was enough.
Then she wandered toward the bathroom and stopped in the doorway.
This decision was different from skipping the shower.
The douche lived beneath the sink, behind spare toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Using it had become such an established part of her preparation that she rarely thought of it as a decision anymore. If serious anal play might happen on camera, Mara cleaned herself out.
Simple.
Responsible.
Predictable.
It made everything visually cleaner and psychologically easier. No wondering. No surprises. No moment where a toy came out carrying evidence that Mara’s digestive system had declined to acknowledge the production schedule.
She rested one hand on the cabinet door.
And thought about yesterday.
Not the man at dinner.
Not the low-rise jeans.
The fitting room.
Pulling off the leggings and catching that first stronger release of lower-body heat. Realizing that the smell trapped between her cheeks wasn’t remotely as horrifying as she had spent most of her adult life assuming it would be.
Her fingers there.
Her fingers beneath her nose.
Then going back because the first answer hadn’t satisfied her curiosity.
And the plug.
That should have been the point where whatever game she was playing with herself ended.
Something had spent hours inside her ass. She had removed it, held it in front of herself, smelled it—
—and wanted another breath.
Mara’s hand remained on the cabinet.
The memory produced a small, pleasant tightening low in her stomach.
She looked down at herself.
“Really?”
Apparently.
She could douche now.
Twenty minutes and the question disappeared.
She could make herself internally neutral in exactly the same way she had spent years making herself externally neutral before she went on camera.
Or she could find out.
That was what interested her.
Not filth.
Not some dramatic declaration that she suddenly wanted everything dirty.
She wanted to know what her actual body did when she stopped preparing it specifically to make sure she never saw evidence that it was a body.
Where did Mara end?
Where did the stagecraft begin?
Yesterday she had discovered that sweat and skin oil and natural musk could become erotic precisely because nobody had manufactured them for anybody.
Maybe this was the same question from another direction.
Mara released the cabinet handle.
“Fine.”
The douche stayed exactly where it was.
That decision made her pulse jump harder than skipping the shower had.
Good to know.
She left the bathroom.
The room took about ten minutes to arrange because Mara deliberately refused to make it perfect.
Chair near the window.
Laptop on its usual side table.
Webcam connected.
Microphone checked.
Ring light lower than usual.
The cardboard box remained beside the front door.
The pump basket stayed partly visible beneath the coffee table.
Two dishes remained visible through the kitchen doorway.
Mara noticed all three.
Moved none of them.
The stream title took longer.
THONG TRY-ON — WHICH ONES ARE ACTUALLY WEARABLE?
She looked at it.
Technically accurate.
Excellent.
The private stream was age-gated 18+ as always.
Mara checked the frame one final time.
Her hair looked terrible.
That was staying too.
At 5:12, she went live.
The first usernames appeared almost immediately.
Regulars.
Several people from the previous stream.
Someone typed:
THE PLAID WON
Mara laughed.
“No. Democracy failed.”
Another message appeared.
you disappeared
“I slept.”
for 16 hours??
Mara checked the clock.
“Apparently with commitment.”
The viewer count climbed.
She settled sideways into the chair with one leg tucked under herself. She hadn’t dressed specifically for the opening: an oversized dark T-shirt covered most of her, and underneath it she wore the first thong from the lineup, plain black cotton.
Her hair was genuinely slept in.
No makeup except whatever microscopic remnants yesterday had refused to surrender.
Mara looked at her own thumbnail in the corner of the screen.
Then at chat.
“Okay. Full disclosure.”
The messages slowed.
She touched her hair.
“This is day-two Mara.”
Chat detonated.
DAY TWO OF WHAT
oh god
she looks so good
what happened to your hair
Mara tried smoothing one side.
It rose again.
She gave up.
“You get what you get. I woke up late, and I’m not doing the entire production today.”
what production
“The ritual.”
She counted on her fingers.
“Hair. Makeup. Everything arranged perfectly. Pretending my apartment doesn’t normally contain cardboard.”
She pointed toward the box by the door.
Someone asked:
you didn’t shower?
Mara read it.
Paused.
A week ago she probably would have made a joke.
Maybe lied.
Today she leaned back in the chair.
“Nope.”
Chat exploded.
Mara laughed.
“No. Don’t make it weird.”
Which naturally made it much weirder.
since when
like not TODAY or
WAIT SINCE YESTERDAY
She glanced toward the lens.
“Since yesterday.”
The response arrived as a wall: predictable filth, delight, disbelief, a few accusations that she was lying.
Mara raised one arm and, almost without thinking, turned her nose briefly toward the inside of it.
She breathed.
The little smile afterward happened before she remembered hundreds of adults could see her.
“No,” she said. “Definitely not lying.”
A notification sounded.
Not the ordinary tip chime.
A deeper one.
The chat visibly slowed around it.
Mara looked toward the screen.
An unfamiliar username sat beside a bright green dot, the platform marker reserved for accounts with unusually heavy tipping activity. She had seen green accounts before, but rarely, and never this one.
The amount beneath it was $400.
No message.
Mara blinked.
Chat noticed simultaneously.
holy shit
WHO IS THAT
green already???
Mara looked from the username to the camera and back again.
“Uh.”
For once, somebody whose hobby involved reacting to strangers on the internet had temporarily misplaced her reaction.
She smiled.
“Thank you.”
Nothing appeared from the account.
No request.
No compliment.
No emoji.
Just the green dot.
Mara waited perhaps half a second longer than she intended.
Then picked up the empty packaging from the first thong.
“Anyway. Underwear.”
That got the laugh she wanted.
Good.
She stood.
The oversized shirt fell to the tops of her thighs.
“First one is aggressively normal.”
She lifted the hem high enough to show the black cotton thong. Plain waistband, sensible amount of fabric, cheap cotton, the kind of underwear somebody could wear all day and forget they were wearing.
Mara turned.
“This is the responsible thong.”
booooo
“Yes. Exactly.”
She tugged lightly at one side.
“This is the thong your health insurance would recommend.”
That made her laugh harder than the joke deserved.
The laugh became ugly.
Then became a snort.
Mara slapped one hand over her mouth.
“Oh, fuck off.”
Chat became unreadable.
Mara was still laughing when she caught sight of the green dot again.
No tip this time.
Nothing.
Just another name among the viewers.
Watching.
She registered that and moved on.
The cotton thong received a completely sincere eight out of ten.
“No drama. Doesn’t crawl into places uninvited. Probably survives the dryer.”
WE WANT DRAMA
“You have misunderstood product reviews.”
She let the shirt fall.
“Next.”
The second thong contained dramatically less material.
Black lace, narrow through the front, nearly nonexistent in back.
Mara held it between two fingers.
“Already stupid.”
put it on
“That’s generally how this works.”
She reached toward the laptop.
“Camera’s going away for a minute.”
Immediate outrage.
Mara rotated the side table until the webcam pointed toward the blank wall beside the window.
“There. Behave.”
NO
TURN IT BACK
WE PAID FOR MARA NOT DRYWALL
“Drywall is expensive.”
She left the camera exactly where it was.
That was the fun part.
They could still hear her.
Fabric moving.
A drawer opening.
The soft scrape of the pump basket shifting across the floor.
Mara kept talking about the lace as if she were conducting an entirely legitimate consumer review.
“This says hand wash only, which is already disqualifying.”
A pause.
“Underwear should not require a work ethic.”
Chat demanded the camera back.
Mara ignored them.
The audience knew changing underwear shouldn’t take this long.
They didn’t know precisely why it was taking this long.
That uncertainty was better than simply showing them.
When Mara finally rotated the laptop back, she was wearing the lace thong.
Her face was slightly warmer.
Her posture had changed in some small way that was difficult to name.
And the lace fit differently from how it would have fit five minutes earlier.
Chat identified the reason instantly.
YOU PUMPED
LOOK AT HER
YOU ABSOLUTELY PUMPED
Mara looked offended.
“I was changing.”
FOR THAT LONG??
She looked down at herself as if encountering the fit for the first time.
The narrow lace front had noticeably more work to do now.
Mara lifted her eyebrows.
“Huh.”
The chat went feral.
She fought the smile trying to appear.
“Maybe it runs small.”
LIAR
“The lace needed time to settle.”
That destroyed her.
Mara laughed at her own awful excuse, head falling forward, slept-in hair covering half her face.
Another notification sounded.
She looked up.
Green dot.
$125.
No message.
Mara’s laughter didn’t disappear, but it changed.
She noticed the timing.
Nobody had asked her to do anything.
She hadn’t revealed anything more explicit in that moment.
She had simply been sitting there laughing at herself.
Mara looked at the username.
Then toward the lens.
“Thank you again.”
Still nothing.
Interesting.
Not interesting enough to interrupt the stream.
Yet.
She stood and turned for the camera.
The lace narrowed sharply in back, disappearing almost completely between her cheeks.
“Six out of ten.”
TEN
“No.”
WHY SIX
“Because if underwear requires strategic planning to sit down, it has failed as underwear.”
Someone asked her to bend over.
Mara read the message.
Looked directly into the camera.
“No.”
The refusal triggered predictable outrage.
She smiled.
Then bent anyway—not because chat had told her to, but because the third package had slipped from the coffee table onto the floor.
It took perhaps two seconds to retrieve.
Long enough.
Mara straightened with the package in her hand and sat back down while chat lost whatever remained of its collective mind.
“You people are exhausting.”
The third thong made the lace one look conservative.
Black string.
Tiny mesh triangle.
Almost nothing behind.
Mara held it between both hands.
“This looks like somebody stopped manufacturing it halfway through.”
THATS THE POINT
“That is not how products work.”
She turned the laptop toward the wall.
The response was immediate.
NOOOOO
WE KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING NOW
Mara smiled.
“Then use your imagination.”
She moved away from the camera.
This time she narrated less.
That made the waiting worse.
A drawer slid open somewhere outside the frame.
Something clicked.
Fabric moved.
Then silence.
Long enough for the chat to start inventing increasingly elaborate theories.
Mara could still read them from beside the laptop.
She smiled to herself.
They knew.
Or thought they knew.
That was enough.
She let them wait.
When the camera finally returned, the stream had changed without anything overt happening on-screen.
Mara looked warmer.
More distracted.
The oversized T-shirt had disappeared entirely, abandoned somewhere outside the frame. She now wore a loose cropped tank with the tiny mesh thong.
And the thong was failing.
Not catastrophically.
Not yet.
But the little triangle of black mesh was attempting to cover a body that had become visibly fuller than the body she had started the stream with.
Mara looked down.
Hooked one finger beneath an edge of the mesh.
Moved it.
Released it.
The fabric immediately returned to its losing position.
She looked at the camera.
“No notes.”
Chat moved too quickly to read.
every pair is getting smaller
AND SHES GETTING BIGGER
Mara pressed her lips together.
“Correlation is not causation.”
So many people called her a liar that the words became visual texture.
Mara settled deeper into the chair.
She could feel heat gathering beneath her breasts and behind her knees now. The apartment itself wasn’t particularly warm. She was.
Pumping.
Moving around.
Laughing.
The lingering day-two warmth of a body she had deliberately declined to wash.
She shifted the cropped tank away from her ribs and caught a little release of air from underneath it.
Her own scent rose with it.
Mara paused.
Only for a second.
Warm skin.
Old sweat revived by new sweat.
The deeper natural musk that had survived sleep and was becoming stronger again as the stream heated her up.
Her nostrils flared almost imperceptibly.
She liked it.
A lot.
Mara let the tank fall again before chat could decide exactly what it had noticed.
Someone typed:
why did you just make that face
She read it.
“What face?”
THAT FACE
“I have many.”
you smelled yourself again didnt you
Mara’s mouth twitched.
She didn’t answer.
Not yet.
Instead she reached for the fourth package.
The garment inside was smaller again.
She unfolded it in her lap.
A micro thong.
A scrap of black mesh attached to strings, the entire thing small enough to fit comfortably in one hand.
Mara held it against herself experimentally.
Looked at the thong.
Looked down at what the third one was already struggling to contain.
Then looked at the camera.
For the first time all evening she seemed genuinely uncertain whether the next piece of underwear was physically going to cooperate with the experiment she had created.
Her smile began slowly.
“Oh, this is going to be stupid.”.
